“Lovely”

My wife and I had a absolutely lovely weekend stay at this hotel. Not only is the hotel situated in smashing part of the Norfolk coast, but we found the accommodation, i.e. our room to be at a very high standard and very nicely dressed and the hotel in general, to be beautifully presented.

The main comment I would to mention though, is the politeness and friendliness of every member of staff that we met, from the people on reception, the bar staff and the dining room staff, they are a credit to the hotel.

“No major issues!”

Caley Hall Hotel Limited

23 Apr 2008

I organised a weekend away for a group of friends. This is a hobby of mine and I always use Trip Advisor as my main research tool.

As Caley Hall was No 1 in Hunstanton I booked it but then became a little anxious reading subsequent reviews.

This Hotel clearly aims primarily at the family holiday trade. Most of the rooms have a double and a single bed, the bar closes at 11 p.m. and the lounge at midnight. Not too good for an adult group enjoying a weekend away.

However, the staff were very friendly and we were able to negotiate late opening of the lounge/bar albeit only until midnight!

Our rooms were very well equipped indeed. The bathroom was OK but could do with refurbishment before too long.

We ate in the restaurant on our first evening and most were complimentary about their meals. The breakfast buffet was very good with plenty of choice and the hot breakfast was always fresh despite being a buffet.

This is a beautiful part of the country and the Caley Hall is a satisfactory base.

“Noisy Rooms”

Caley Hall Hotel Limited

We booked a 2 night dinner, bed and breakfast package in a superior double room from Easter Saturday to Easter Monday for £370.

Our room was on the ground floor and our initial reaction to the room was very favourable. However we soon became aware of sounds from the room above - we could hear every footstep, wardrobe doors closing, toilet flushing, shower running and even conversations. Unfortunately for us the occupants above us were early risers - 6.30 am - and our anticipated relaxing lie in on Easter Sunday was spoilt.

We advised reception desk of the problem and asked if there was another room available. The only room that they could offer was a standard room on the ground floor with no room above. We took it gladly but unfortunately the adjacent room was occupied by a family with excitable children and loud voices. Again no peace on Monday morning. Also the hot water sytem vibrated violently every 15 minutes or so.

I must admit this did spoil our stay and we were very disappointed. We were charged the full amount for our stay even though we only had a standard room for the second night. A reduction without having to ask or a free bottle of wine would have been a nice gesture!

This lack of sound proofing is a major problem and should not be expected for such high priced rooms.

Anyone visiting should also be aware that last orders at the lounge bar are at 10.45 pm (10.15pm on Sundays) - prompt! The loung is then closed 15 minutes later. You then have to return to your room and listen to your neighbours!

We stayed here for one night after fancying a night away and the hotel allows dogs. The hotel itself is nice the staff friendly and helpful and all very pleasant. The room was up a flight of stairs and was so hot it was almost unbearable even with the windows open. The room however was a nice size and looked very clean and fresh. It had all the amenities we needed and there really isnt anything to complain about. We ate in the restaurant and the food was really good. The service fine and again very pleasant staff. This is where the but comes in. The hotel is dog friendly however you cant take the dog in the bar. I didnt want to leave her in the bedroom and I didnt want to stay in the bedroom either as it was to hot. Not a massive issue we went to the pub down the road. There is also no grass to let the dog go and do its business. Again not a massive problem but a little surprising for a dog friendly hotel. The biggest problem we had during the one night stay was we were in a room by the car park which was lit up all night. It was so light in the room that I could actually read my book at three in the morning without putting a light on and this didnt aid a good nights sleep. All in all I didnt dilke this hotel at all but at the same time for reasons that I cant put my finger on i didnt love it and am unsure why as there really wasnt anything wrong. Old Hunstanton was a really nice place but if I went back I dont think it would be back to here unless there was no other dog friendly hotels in the area.

This is ok but certainly not a 5/5 place. This was our first stay for some time at a sizeable hotel as we normally like to stay at upmarket guest houses. We were not lucky, like other reviewers, to get an upgraded room though I had booked a 'larger' double room. It was a nice room but on the small side so am not sure how big a normal double room would be! The 2 other things we didn't like were the dreadful plastic shower curtain. I know this sounds petty but surely we have progressed more than this. I appreciate it is often not possible to have a separate shower but we shouldnt still have to battle with a cold clingy bit of plastic and the near impossible task of not flooding the bathroom floor. We try to book places now that have got out of this timewarp. The other thing was the exorbitant prices in the restaurant with only highly spiced and rich food on the menu. A rip off in my mind.
So it is a nice place but one night was plenty.
