“well-appointed and comfortable”

Beechwood Hotel

18 Apr 2008

Echo the previous enthusiastic reviews, based on a three night stay in a private group for an architectural tour. In a spacious four poster room with a comfortable sofa, large bathroom provided with Molton Brown toiletries; only niggle would be that it's not so easy to read in bed when the bedsight lights compete with the bed hangings. Also - and only I suspect a problem with a 15 strong party - that the service at dinner was a bit stretched.

Spent Easter at the Beechwood Hotel. Fantastic Property.

Location: Convenient for North Norfolk, The Broads, Great Yarmouth and Norwich.

Room: We had a 4 Poster Bed Room, great size, really comfortable bed and opulently large bathroom with a fantastic victoria tub and separate large cubicle shower. Character furntiture and fresh quality furnishings. Room was well soundproofed, no disturbance from other rooms or from outside.

Hotel itself: Has character, well maintained throughout.

Dining: Beautifully laid out dining room with fantastic food. Good choice and high quality both at breakfast and dinner.

Wine List: Well laid out, good descriptions and good choice. We had 3 fantastic bottles of wine for between £25-£32.

Service: Natural service to ensure that your stay was special, I was only asked for my room number once - all the staff make a point of remembering you so that this is un-necessary. Fantastic little touches from whisking the bags up to the room before you've even noticed to the great chocolate Lindt bunny on the bed after turn-down service on Easter Sunday and the hot cross buns on arrival on Good Friday. Lots of advice on what to do during the day - quite simply the best I've experienced.

We stayed here for a long weekend with a third night free - as long as we ate at the hotel - since we had eaten so well for the previous two nights this was a pleasure!
Truly delightful staff - the owners, front desk, bar and waiters/waitresses - friendly, helpful, committed and great advice on where and what to do.
The rooms are comfortable and warm with stunning pillows and shower, great bath, quiet and pleasant. The food was great, imaginative and uses local produce, the menu changes every evening and the wine list is most impressive. The location for the coast and Broads is spot on and al in all, we had an outstanding time.

We stayed one night at the Beechwood Hotel, it was a late booking so there was only a small room left. Overall a great experience. We'd tried to book at other hotels but they wouldn't allow just one night at the weekend, however the Beechwood were very accommodating.

We were welcomed into the house and shown to our room, after being offered scones and tea. The room was indeed very small and two people had to negotiate their way around each other, however, as we weren't there for long it was just about okay. The bathroom was fabulous, almost as big as the bedroom with victorian style floor and fittings, big fluffy robes and great power shower. The room and bathroom were spotlessly clean.

Breakfast next morning was lovely, although a little disconcerting having Agatha Christie peering at us over our morning coffee (apparently she used to stay there).

Would definitely stay there again, they were so welcoming and obviously care about their hotel. They still have that attention to detail which is so often lacking.

“Norfolk in December”

If you're mad enough to visit Norfolk in December this is the place to stay - and visiting off peak certainly has it's advantages! We were upgraded to a four poster room - which was simply the best hotel room I've ever stayed in. The biggest, most comfortable bed, sofas and chairs and a bathroom bigger than most London hotel rooms!! The doors opened straight onto the garden - which I can imagine would be really lovely in the summer. After unpacking we spent a couple of hours in the library with tea and scones and the newspapers - oure relaxation!

Most of the reviews on this site have given overwhelming praise to the service and I can put agree. The owners, Lindsey and Dom are friendly, accomodating but not at all intrusive. Lindsey is a wealth of knowledge about the local areas and was happy to recommend walks and lend maps. The excellent service was not limited to the owners - all of the staff - from front of house to the waitresses were polite and knowledgeable.

The only tiny downside was the food which was very good but a little limited as the menu doesn't offer a huge range (to be expected when everything is cooked fresh) and changes on a monthly basis. So if you were staying more than a couple of nights and didn't fancy the special it could be repetative.
