As always we were greeted with a very friendly and warm welcome and taken to our room, with help to carry our luggage. The room which was Kingfisher - the four poster bedroom with balcony was really well equipped, large comfortable bed and bedding, bathroom in good order throughout and the view from the balcony across the gardens was truly lovely. The flat screen television was perfect and now that the hotel has digital television the choice of channels available has improved dramatically.
After taking tea in the bar area with a roaring fire we took dinner later in the restaurant which was faultless, from the amuse bouche to the amazing Morston Mussel gratin with mussels and shrimps in a crab veloute all topped with parmesan crisps to the Hake Raerbit with a tiny saucepan of fish pie on the side, beautifully presented and good portion sizes, to finish the meal chocolate fondant with snicker ice cream and peanut brittle shards, and with coffee ,delicious little chocolates filled with gooey caramel all staff very good but duty manager Rachel particularly helpful and to celebrate our anniversary, table was covered in red heart shaped sequins and crystals - a really nice touch. The meal on the second night was equally amazing as was breakfast.
Walking out of the hotel and strainght into a National Trust Park is really enjoyable and walking down to the train station to catch the steam train is a treat. Having stayed here before i am aware that all the rooms are not so well decorated as ours was and the bathrooms can be a little antiquated and noisy and in need of attention but this is a grade two listed building and as such it will always have the quirkyness that goes with it.
The staff go out of their way to ensure that throughout the stay they do everything they possibly can to make guests happy and they are very good at it. We will certainly return again and again.
