We stayed at the Park Inn Palace, Southend for one night on May 24th. The hotel is in a great location - it overlooks the beach, pier and Adventure Island Theme Park on one side and is directly opposite Southend's shopping centre on the other. It is a five minute walk from Southend Central station (and about ten minutes walk from Southend Victoria station). There is a multi storey public car park directly opposite the hotel.
On arrival we were greeted in a friendly and efficient manner. We were very pleased with our room, we had paid a little extra for a sea view and not only had a great view but also a lovely balcony. Our room itself was light, quite spacious, clean, well decorated and well maintained. Although the Park Inn group are a chain of mid-market hotels, we liked that fact that unlike with some chains the pictures in the room are not identical wherever one goes - ours had prints on a fairground theme which were colourful, jolly and appropriate to its location. Access to the balcony is through double glazed patio doors so one could take the chair out of the room to sit on the balcony if one wished. The bathroom was clean, adequate in size but had a large shower rather than a bath. In a manner similar to Premier Inns it provides liquid hand wash, shampoo & shower gel from containers fixed to the wall (rather than individual bottles). This is perfectly adequate but not luxurious - however, as the prices are moderate I do not think this is a bad idea, indeed it probably saves quite a lot of waste. The room had a very comfortable bed and fully functioning air conditioning so we slept well.
We had our dinner at the hotel's own RGB restaurant. This is a bright, modern restaurant with panoramic seaviews. The menu is unpretentious, moderately priced and offers a good range of meals. The service was friendly and both my husband and myself enjoyed our dinner. We had an after dinner drink in the bar - like the restaurant it's bright, modern and has great views of the sea.
Check out next day was efficiently handled. Overall, it was an enjoyable stay and we will probably return to this hotel in the future
