Hotel is located towards the end of a narrow dead-end road on the edge of a residential area. It is quite near a major junction of the A303 / A3093 roads, but cannot be accessed from there directly. The recommended route is north along the A3093 to the second roundabout, taking the first exit for London Road. This road twists about a bit and it is necessary to turn left and then sharp left again just before a Total petrol station into Micheldever Road. (No signage was visible). At the illuminated hotel sign, the entrance is a very narrow driveway on the right-hand side, after about a third of a mile. Hotel is in two separate buildings connected by a covered walkway. There are steps and or ramps between these buildings and access to rooms in the annexe require further steps to be negotiated. Reception, Bar and Restaurant are all in the main building, although the latter seems to have limited opening hours. Our room was a basic double with usual facilities. However, it was apparent that it was usually let as a 'single' as only one set of towels and one pack of biscuits on the courtesy tray were provided. Not a major issue since we arrived quite late. Courteous and helpful staff. Excellent breakfast buffet. Few other guests seen! Fit for purpose as an overnight stay on a longer journey and very quiet. Also likely to be suitable as a base for exploring the area - Stonehenge, Salisbury, Amesbury are nearby.

Not too many guests when we visited this time, it was our 2nd visit, and we got an upgrade on the room...Nice.
Good selection available at breakfast, although would have liked the juices to be cold

IN NEED OF SOME REFURBISHMENT

On arrival the hotel looked quite nice and the reception, hotel bar and restaurant were all ‘recently(ish) refurbished’ and as such good. The rooms were reached by an undercover corridor, which was past its best, although it looked out on a rather nice enclosed garden. Our room was on the second floor and unfortunately stunk of smoke. Now I now it’s difficult to control the ‘nasty smokers’, of which I used to be one, but I must tell you I don’t think I’ve ever been in a room that smelt so bad of smoke. The funny thing is that out of our party the smokers actually got the room that least smelt. The room itself was clean and fine, but because of the smell it wasn’t nice to spend time in. Now on to the bathroom – this room is in urgent need of refurbishment, not good. The water pressure is abysmal – unforgiveable so sort it out. The breakfast was ok and the service was good. The rooms weren’t expensive so I didn’t bother complaining about the smelly room. I’m sure they would of moved us if I’d ask. It’s a really nice location and with some good money spent on the rooms it could be a good place to stay.

16 Oct 2008 | Trip type: Business, Solo travel

I have stayed here twice now, mainly due to lack of choice in the area. The first stay I had a huge lovely room, as seen by another reviewers photo, it was clean and the bathroom was clean and in all working order with lots of little toiletries, both times costs £70 per night and I was told that this was a discount (?) The down side was the large industrial bins were underneath the window and moved sereval time throughout the night which woke me up everytime so by the time of my meeting the next day I was very tired. The breakfast was nice though, the staff were lovely and very helpful. One member of staff seemed to do everything, he was receptionist when I arrived, barman later and waiter in the dining room for breakfast next morning, I would not like to work his hours!

The second trip was not as good, I stayed in the extension to the hotel, the room was in the roof of the building, the TV did not work, neither did the loo and the bathroom seemed as though it was work in process, there was even a sign about the loo, if it did not work contact reception, it seemed to be expected that I would move, I felt rather annoyed spending £70 on this, I was moved but to a working but tiny smelly room.

The plus about this hotel is the staff are really lovely and nothing is too much trouble.

I am attending a course at the hotel today and have decided to drive 3 hours to get there and another 3 hours back rather than stay this time.

After reading the other reviews prior to my stay i was not looking forward to my visit.... but what do people expect????? 5 star luxury for 2 star price!!!
We found our room more than adequate....lovely crisp white bedding, clean white towels, full size ironing board, iron and hair dryer ( not travel size) , bathroom suppiles and drink facilities.
There was plenty of drawer & wardrobe space and constant supply of hot water and a power shower.
Breakfast was served efficiently and was of great standard.
Parking at the hotel is at the rear and was very handy. The hotel is situated in the middle of Andover town centre- very convineant.
The floors do creak and are uneven but what do people expect it is a very old building!!!!! Wouldn't hesitate about staying again.
