“Don't stay if they are having a wedding!”

The Beaulieu Hotel

The hotel is beautifully situated in the middle of heathland, and should, therefore be idyllic. When we booked we were told that there was a wedding on that weekend. This did not worry us as we assumed it wouldn't really impact our stay, as they gave no indication that it would cause any disruption. As it happens the wedding was in the main restaurant, meaning that the dinner we booked was moved without warning to the slightly dingy bar area, and the music reverberated throughout the hotel until midnight, at which point we were kept awake by the constant banging of a fire door.
The views from the bedrooms are good but our room definitely needed modernising. Not worth the money that we paid but the area is beautiful and if you have dinner at the hotel the food is surprisingly good!

    • Disliked — The noise disruption we experienced, plus being moved to a much lesser room for dinner. We received no warning of either!

“Perfect for New Forest base”

The Beaulieu Hotel

5 Jun 2007

Perfect for a stay in the New Forest and plenty to explore from here. I would recommend a trip to Lymington and eat seafood by the quay.

Rooms are adequate size, bright and clean.

Food is simple, fresh and well prepared.

Overall very pleasant and would recommend.

“Good, and could be really good !”

Super location. Front rooms have fine views across open ground, but are subject to noise from traffic and from the bar immediately below. Some rooms recently refurbished, and very nice. Gravel car park adequate, but seriously potholed, and a pain in wet weather.

Our front room was smallish, not refurbished, but OK. Large bathroom.

Breakfast: good selection, including fish cooked to order. Dinner: good selection, good cooking, good presentation. Some specials at modest surcharges. Wines reasonably priced. Restaurant staff friendly, capable. Mostly young, some untidy. Ditto front of house staff. They all need the formality of a dress code [and a hairstyle code].

Our out of season deal was great value, and we'll certainly return.

“Bed Height”

The staff were very pleasant and welcoming and stayed this way throughout our week's stay.
However, if you are DISABLED be aware that the beds are the highest my wife and I have ever encountered in many years of hotel visits and that if you want to use the restuarant there are steps down into it or you have to go all the way round the hotel outside! This is a brand new room...
After our first night we were packed and ready to leave due to the HEIGHT OF THE BED. My wife could not get in or out without assistance and she has to get up several times a night. The staff tried to find us a room with lower beds without success. In passing a room with the door open I found the only room with a standard size bed in the hotel which the staff new nothing about. It was free (with a bit of juggling) for the rest of our stay so we moved into it.
What could have been a disaster turned out fine in the end although the food was a bit boring for a week's stay.

    • Any tips/secrets for future travellers? — Don't go if you are disabled and needd a proper sizes bed.

At £140 per night for a double room, this hotel is not good value-for-money. Common areas such as the bar, dining room etc are excellent but our room and I suspect most others are dated. Fixtures and fittings are poor quality and tired. The noise insulation levels between our room and the room above was also very poor. Thankfully there weren't noisy neighbours above. A small room for the price, also. A fair price wouild be about £70 for this quality and size of accommodation.
