“Overpriced and below average accommodations”

Master Builders House Hotel

Below average! and that includes the total lack of response from the Hotel Management when approached about our disappointing stay!. At $360 a night we expected at the very least an above average experience, what we got was ordinary!. We were meeting friends from the area and although they had not stayed at the hotel choose it because it looked 'old worlde' and occupied a great location - true, overlooking lawns and the Beaulieu River. However the hallways, room, bathroom and even the bedding is dated and shabby in need of total replacement & redecoration. My friend had asked for a room with a view for us, we got the side roof!. We ate in the newly refurbished dining room (pity they didn't invest some of that money in their bedrooms!) our meal with our friends was O.K. nothing special.
Breakfast was included in our rate . We will not be going back!

“Seriously outmoded, a "Travelodge-on-sea"”

Master Builders House Hotel

What an opportunity missed! Situated in a glorious maritime setting, overlooking the solent and with such history behind it, the Master Builder's should be a winner. Unfortunately, the decor is severely dated (something the odd speck of Farrow and Ball paint cannot hide),
and service is very poor.

Walls in the Adams wing are paper thin - a seventies extension obviously built "on the cheap". Beds are hard, and the decor brings to mind seventies sit coms - Hyacinth Bucket all over. An inn fit for
Rover drivers with aspirations.

The service and training of the staff is sadly lacking. With a straight face and an empty dining room behind him, a barman asked us if we had reservations. Drinks were delivered with the vim of a disgruntled sloth. A request for extra blankets yielded only towels.

This place delivers a Travelodge product on a London four star price
- seriously outmoded.

“Delightful Hotel”

We spent two nights here in early May, driving straight down from Heathrow after the long flight from Australia (about an hours drive). The hotel is part of the old ship building facility at Bucklers Hard that used to the oaks from the New Forest. It is a beautiful drive throught the forest on quiet roads (ponies everywhere) and the very quaint village of Beulieu. The Hotel serves a yachting community and there is a nautical theme to the area. Our room was in the Adams wing which is a newer addition to the Hotel. The room had the most wonderful enormous bed and though a little on the small side itself was quite adequate. The best part of the Hotel is the Drawing Room and Dining Room. Brilliantly furnished with an eclectic selection of artwork, these are lovely spaces looking out over the terrace, lawn and gardens, to the river and yacht moorings. Truly delightful to dine in. The menu has some exquisite selections and well worth the indulgence. A traditional pub which serves meals is also attached to the hotel, and this is a lower budget option. Yachties drop into the pub and it opens onto the central avenue of Bucklers Hard where the ships were built. I couldn't fault the service we received here. It is a lovely place to stay and use as a base for exploring Portsmouth and the New Forest .

A quite beautifully located hotel well worth the short drive from Southampton. Very nice welcome, comfortable rooms, good food and a really lovely breakfast.

This is a very attractive hotel which overlooks the Beaulieu River. We paid a bit extra a got Room 20 which must be the best room in the hotel giving fantastic views over the marina. The public rooms were very comfortable especially for pre-dinner drinks and reading the newspapers. Whilst the meal in the restaurant was very pleasant it occassionally seemed a little tasteless. We thought the wine list was excellent with many wines below £15. The attactive pub is also worth a visit.
