F.Y.I this was a £55 room purchased in May 2012 (so yes it is budget but still, not cheap cheap), I only chose this in a bid to save the company a few quid but in hindsight wish I'd stayed at any of the local premier travell inn's for a few extra £.
I have a lot of hotel stays with work and can honestly say I am not 'precious' but this hotel really was the pits (ROOM 217 TO BE PRECISE), where to start...Cobwebs on the walls around the bad, carpet was visibly dirty and would have benefitted from a (good) hoovering, the wall by the window looked as if it had blood stains on it and the curtains were also stained, the grout and more so the sealant around the bath were heavily stained with mould and mildew, the TV remote didn't work.
Bath towels were seriously holed to the point I could put my fist through some of them, don't know what these had been used for but they had seen better days.
Corridors and lobby were all dated with light bulbs blown everywhere and as others have said, it's generally very tired all round (gets your mind wandering as soon as you set foot in it as to what else may be broken/not working!).
On leaving the receptionist did the compulsory 'was everything OK with your stay' to which i responded 'No not really, the room was filthy etc etc' (all politely and not in a rant-typical British style!) and the response i got was 'oh, sorry to hear that' that was it - no mention of who to escalate it to or anything - possibly a common occurence for this hotel that she's just given up lol !?
Area in general was a bit grim and car park was open to view to all passers-by, I had to leave my car round the back out of sight from my room, didn't feel particularly safe.
Now not specific to this hotel but the chain in general, I ordered the 'continental' breakfast and I'd say if you have the misfortune of even staying here, don't even bother with this...delivered to the hotel room at the time you request (mine was 6:30am and was there on time to be fair) but the food a real disappointment - it's a pre-packaged delight* which 'might' fill the appetite for a 3 month old baby but definately not any adult - tiny and i mean TINY plastic bowl of corn flakes with attached UHT milk and tiny plastic spoon (teaspoon size), which I can honestly i finished in 5 or 6 spoonfuls it was that small (and I didn't finish it, really wasn't pleasant), a tiny muffin and also croissaint and tiny bottle of O.J - seriously Travelodge, having stayed at Premier Travel Inns usually this is well off the mark of what business travellers expect - all you can eat fresh food including fruit along with a full english if you so desire.
I had to drive straight to a local Tesco after this for a sandwich as I didn't have time to stop for anything else before my first appointment in the morning.
