I viewed this accomodation both via the hotel s own web site and also on 2 booking sites which stated that they had 5+ rooms double and twin were available. I confimed the booking by email 5/6 weeks prior to our stay and also spoke to the owner, I again confirmed my booking of a double room at Kings Lodge a few days prior to stay. .
On arrival we were informed that we had been booked into their other hotel in the village as they had overbooked and that they book into the other hotel when rooms were not available (I have since on review sites that this has happened previously) As I had not booked at this accomodation I complained and a room then became available (but the room next door was also empty that night). The room we were given was a twin room not double as booked.
The room whilst been quaint had the most uncomfortable beds, I tried both beds and they were both as uncomfortable. The room was cold overnight - whilst I could have coped with that ,the duvets were very thin althought the sheets were fresh and clean. As the property was very old I expected some creaking floor boards, but along with the very noisy plumbing/water system it took us 4 hours to eventually fall asleep as both beds creaked and squeeked on every movement and as they were so uncomfortable it made for a very restless night. We were then awoken at 4.30am by slamming of bedroom doors and slamming of the fire escape door outside our room, we had been informed that this could be used to get in and out of the hotel - but you had to climb over 4 trousers presses to use the exit/entry.
The bathroom door could not be shut properly as the catch and lock had been removed, the toilet seat was loose and moved when sat onand the flush handle was broken and the toilet pan was badlyb stained. The heating/water system was obviously very old as it was not only noisy but despite running the tap for 10 minutes in the afternoon the water remained cold. The extractor fan in the bathroom was also full of dirt.
Despite the room been cold at night I still would have liked to have been able to open the window in the morning but the handle of the old window frame had been broken off .
I am unable to comment about the food in the restaurant as we ate out as I was very disappointed with the room and my partner wanted to try and make ammends. Although I was aware that breakfast was not included and not available on site it does need to be made more clear in the hotel information available on the internet. We did have a drink in the bar and found that very pleasant and the owner very friendly
We had booked for 2 nights and as we had things to do in the area we did stay for the second night - when we noted that at least one of the double room became available but was then given to another couple. My partner again mentioned on departure that we had booked a double room and we were told again they had overbooked.
As my partner and myself had been apart for 4 months we were hoping that this would have been a much more pleasant stay, but we both came away exhausted due to lack of sleep in the most uncomfortable beds we have ever tried to sleep in.
Ask name of room on booking and confirm if you want twin/double and confirm which hotel you will act...
