Feel a bit fraudulent writing a review when I only stayed one night, but here goes anyway. When looking for somewhere to stay for just one night, & having no-one with me that I needed to impress, I just wanted 'cheap'. At £35 (en-suite & inc. breakfast) I reckoned I was on the right road.
On arrival, reception were polite & helpful. The room was clean & tidy. Small? Yes, but that's probably why I didn't come up against that old 'single person supplement' trap. As mentioned in other reviews, tea/coffee facilities & a t.v., which personally, I would have mounted a little bit higher up the wall to avoid banging your head on it.
The 'full' breakfast was fine. However, their interpretation of 'fresh', when describing the mushrooms, appeared to differ to my interpretation of the word. And is there anything wrong with the night porter cooking & serving your breakfast! I suppose not. Despite the amount of rooms in the hotel, I was the only one in the dining room at breakfast! (9.30). Strange?!
I certainly wouldn't visit or stay in Margate unless I had to. It is so run down, sad, tired etc etc. A taxi driver told me they (Margate residents) were promised a large cash injection to revitalise the area................ just after W.W.2..........They're still waiting.
The hotel was, at the time of my brief stay, being renovated & obviously one assumes this will only improve the overall look. But it is an old building, & even serious &/or regular renovation will never make it 'modern'. Much like Margate itself, hence title of review.
Location: Less than 5 minutes walk to beach.
If I had to stay overnight for a day or two in the Margate area I can't think of any reason not to return to The Glenwood Hotel.
