Stayed for 2 nights in June 2012. We stayed in the Gardner's cottage, which is really a separate 3 bedroom apt. with a living room and kitchen, etc., but we only occupied one bedroom -- no one else stayed in the apt. It would have been a good arrangement for a family -- roomy but only one bathroom, 3 bedrooms, great well equipt kitchen with a separate ice maker, free"mini-bar" ( yes, drinks were available no additional charge), lots of space. Easy parking out front in the parking lot for the hotel and gardens.
The owner is a very personable gentleman, very helpful. Nice breakfast in their main house dining room, shared at the large dining room table that seats about 24 people or so. Very elegant.
The property also has a couple of acres of gardens open to the public ( for a fee-no charge if you are a guest) which are very pleasant to walk around, particularly after they close to the general public. There is also a tea room near the road.
The town of Sandwich is also a pretty little place, with some decent restaurants and shops very close by. ( Eat at the George and Dragon--very good)
The only negative is that the separate apts. ( I think there are at least 2, perhaps more) back up onto what would normally be a quiet open space, but on Saturday night ( and perhaps other times, too -- who knows!) it becomes a parking spot for restaurants, etc. which created some noise until around midnight or a bit later. I didn't notice this on Sunday night.
Overall, a nice stay and well worth the money. This would be a great spot for 2 couples/family looking a for a base for golfing, sightseeing etc. in the area.
