working continually in kent for 3 months, i've stayed in most of the local hotels, normally im in local 4 star hotels, but all were fully booked, so i ended up in here for one night.
arrived, check in was polite and good, and ended up in room 8. which was clean, and tidy and presentable. everything was where it should be, and worked fine. notably there was good tv reception, which often seems poor in even some 4 star hotels.
food is served in the connecting George pub. And frankly this wasnt so great, upon arrival I was met with the driven statement that i must be finished by 9 because they close. Food choice was poor, with only 2 vegetarian options, no real healthy options and heavily driven towards eating a carvery. I had a steak and ale pie, which was still frozen cold in the centre, and really not worth nearly £8!!!!!! after sending the pie back, I got another one, this time clearly irradiated to an inch of its life, but by then I'd lost my appetite.
my nights sleep was really good, and comfortable with a decent bed and warm room, but i was on the housing side of the building, therefore avoiding a lot of the traffic noise from the A2.
breakfast was once more served in the george pub, and was both expensive (£7.50), and particularly average for a cooked breakfast, with everything deep fried, but my poached egg particularly uncooked, and still liquid white in the centre.
in short, if you do stay here, eat in the best western hotel next door, avoid the rather forlorn and poor quality george hotel, and skip breakfast to get something on your way out. overall, this place may seem cheap but by the time you factor in poor food quality and high price, i'd recommed the best western manor next door as better value for money overall
