I went to the Poacher on Wednesday evening with 2 girl friends. First course was fine, home baked bread with olive oil and olives. We had a bottle of wine and a jug of tap water, had to ask for the glasses for our water. We had to ask for our first course plates to be taken away as we were just about to start our mains. We then chose to have pan fried chicken with risotto, mmmmm big mistake. Think they used the incorrect rice - it was like a thick rice pudding and tasted of cheese and onion crisps !!! It was terrible. One of my friends had the duck which was suppose to be pink, and she was told that it would be pink in the middle was this ok - well it was dark brown all the way through. It was served with vanilla mash, strange combination and didnt work, red cabbage which again was so sweet she was unable to eat and prunes , which were the only good thing about the dish in her opinion. We did complain and they did not charge us for the main course. I have to say the service was not good and there were only 7 other people in the restaurant so not run off their feet. We were asked if we would like a coffee as their coffee is the best, well dont bother. On reflection the guy who served us our drinks was very pleasant but I would not be going back to this establishment based on the food we had. A real shame.
