I stumbled across this little gem of a B&B on Trip Advisor whilst looking at hotel reviews for the surrounding area. Comments like..."Think Bates Motel", "Impersonal and expensive" and "Would not recommend" ....which featured in the local hotel reviews lead me to explore the world of the B&B - something that I have never done before. I can honestly say that my one night stay as guests of Lynn and Richard has changed my view and I will certainly be looking for other similar B&Bs should the need arise.
Upon arrival, we were greeted by Lynn with a welcoming pot of tea and biscuits and after a chat we were shown to our room. The house itself is beautiful - set amids the lovely Leicestershire country side - and is tastefully decorated and very homely. Our room was large and very comfortable and had a king size double and single bed, TV, radio, tea and coffee making facilities, large table, comfy chair and a well appointed bathroom with complementary toiletries. It was also immaculately decorated and spotlessly clean and the tasteful soft furnishings, ornaments and nick nacks certainly helped to give it that homely feel, so often missing in larger hotels. Another nice touch was the Fortnum & Masons box containing all manner of speciality teas - something that would not be found in a hotel costing twice the price. There was no problem coming and going as we were given a key to let ourselves in should we return late at night...which we did!
Our breakfast was served the following morning at a large table in the main room which we shared with fellow guests with which we enjoyed a pleasant conversation whilst being served a hearty breakfast of tea or coffee, fresh fruit juice, baked fruit, cereals, toast and a full English by the convivial hosts.
Without question, if we are in the area again, we will certainly go back to The Gorse House as it made a such pleasant change from the corporate styled budget hotel chains and smaller independent hotels which often leave a lot to be desired.
Finally, a big thank you to Richard and Lynn for making us so welcome for our short but highly enjoyable stay
