I had to go to Scunthorpe for three days to work, so this hotel was booked for me. I have to go once a year, but the usual hotel had changed hands, so my firm decided to try somewhere else. It's very easy to find the hotel from the end of the M181 (only a couple of miles), and there is a large, well-lit car park.
Check-in was very easy, but I'm sure I was given the wrong room - an Executive Double, instead of the single I was expecting. Not that I was complaining, though. It was a large room, with double bed, desk & chair, double wardrobe, two-seater settee and table in the middle of the seating are. The ensuite bathroom was also large and very clean - in fact, I think the whole room had recently been refurbished. The shower was a bit of a disaster. The difference between boiling and freezing was literally 1mm on the dial, at most. Also, at a temperature that was bearable, the water pressure dropped quite noticeably, thus meaning you couldn't use all the features of the shower head, and the tap fitting emitted a loud whining noise. My colleague also had the same problem in a different room, so it's obviously a fault in the system, or the fitting. The bed was comfortable, and there was a very good flat-screen digital TV
Breakfast is from 7-9.30am, consisting of a continental-style cold buffet (cereals, nuts, seeds, fruit etc), and a full English menu. Take-away breakfasts can also be arranged if needed before service starts, which seems an excellent idea. There was a radio on at a loud volume in the breakfast room on the first morning, but it disappeared after that. Lunch and Evening meals can be taken in the bar (Residents only for Evening meals).
From what I could gather, the hotel was taken over a few years ago, and there is an ongoing renovation programme, which is being done with taste. The only down-side to my visit was the double-glazing. Its sound-proofing qualities left a lot to be desired, and the road outside is busy from early in the morning (i.e. 5.30am!). My colleague's room faced the inside of the hotel (which is built in a sort of "u" shape), so she didn't have this problem. She also had a smaller room................
I would happily stay here again for two or three nights, and it is also close to the station. If you want to go into the centre of town, you would need a car/taxi, unless you fancy a 15-20 minute walk.

I stayed in this hotel with my fiance for his aunt's wedding on the 21st april 2007. It's in a quiet residential area and very close to the train station and town centre which is handy.
The room was very clean and a decent size with a large bathroom with a bath which was nice. Tea and coffee making facilities and television. Large comfy bed and dressing table. Had a good nights sleep. the breakfast was really nice with pastries and cerial in buffet style. then you are served a full english which was very nice.
The food at the wedding was lovely and the reception room was really nicely kept. The staff at the reception and at the bar were great. the
all in all a very good hotel

Wortley House Hotel provides a welcome sight for the business traveller (like myself) who had to trudge the 250 metres from the railway station in a headlong wind and full of cold!
Check-in was simple and efficient. Room was clean, spacious and recently refurbished as were the en-suite facilities.
Restaurant was quiet but offered wholesome home cooking. Breakfast was adequate.
Check-out the morning after was abysmally slow, best described as 'painful'. Perhaps the hotel should invest in a faster printer as the existing antiquated one impeded check out efficiency.
Not a bad place to stay in Scunthorpe.

We were booked into a twin room, but were given the key for a family room with a no smoking policy. We asked to be moved, but were informed, that due to a private function this was not possible, as the hotel was fully booked. We were not able to dine in the restaurant either as it was booked out due to the above. After a very long drive from London, my colleague and I were exhausted, and after retiring to our room to rest due to an early start in the morning, The band and disco directly downstairs was at an unacceptable level, the room was too warm and we could not adjust the heating, the window could not be opened to combat this as the noise from downstairs was then amplified. Overall it was a very unpleasant experience.
