“Exactly what we needed”

The Traddock

16 Mar 2008

Perfect location. Warm welcome... and cosiness all round from the entrance hall with a log fire and the smell of fresh lilies to the well heated hallways ( wonderful on a cold rainy March day) and our inviting room with the door open, lights ablaze and the radiator full on!
We especially appreciated the generous Molton Brown goodies, a cafetiere with ground coffee ( and other refreshments) with fresh milk... and a full size bottle of mineral water.
Our room was comfy.... with lovely soft furnishings... but would have benefitted from more lighting options. Also, no radio and as an addict, I missed my 'fix'.
Absolutely no problems with the shower room. Small... but beautifully formed (and decorated).
The kitchen rose to the challenge at dinner, pleasing a fishy coeliac and diabetic carnivore. Service was friendly but professional and the organic food, beautifully prepared, a joy! The only disappointment was the cheese platter, which, in such a generous establishment, was decidely stingy.
Breakfast was excellent...... with choice and quality.
In conclusion, the Austwick Traddock ticked most of our boxes. We especially enjoyed the tranquility and look forward to our next visit

I stayed for a weekend at the Traddock with my mother: I had the hotel's only single room (actually a 'bijou' double which would have been fine for two people for a night), and my mother had Room 4. The beds in both rooms were wonderfully comfortable, with lovely bed linen, towels and toiletries. Yes, the bathrooms are small, but as someone else has said, this is only to be expected in a very old building, and my power shower was great. The heating was easily regulated via the radiator thermostats. Our only slight concern was the lighting levels, which on dark winter mornings were a bit inadequate, and the decor in Room 4 made it seem even darker. Having said that, though, this was only a slight concern and others would probably find it romantic and atmospheric.

Everything else about the hotel was wonderful. It was warm, cosy, relaxing and friendly. The staff were all extremely helpful, informative and professional; we didn't ask them for much, but I'm sure if we had they would have provided it. The hotel was full of current magazines, lots of books and games. The food was terrific, and the wine list was extensive and not too pricey. On the first morning we were served freshly-squeezed fruit juice which was heavenly, but inexplicably on morning two we got standard juice, which was a disappointment.

The weather was awful, so we sat around in front of the log fire for ages reading the papers and magazines, and it felt like a very cosy home. We would definitely stay here again - and indeed hope to - and would recommend it to anyone.

The hotel is situated in a lovely village and has fabulous views over the countryside. Inside, the hotel is welcoming and the public rooms are tastefully and comfortably decorated. The restaurant is excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed the food.

We stayed in room10 and, as other reviewers have commented ,the bathroom set up is barely adequate. We would not stay in this room again as we prefer to have all bathroom fixtures in the bathroom and not in the bedroom, ie the sink! I would advise people to check the bathroom set ups before booking.

However, we would definitely stay in this hotel again, but we would request a different bedroom. Overall, the hotel is to be highly recommended.

“A Real Bargain”

The Traddock

26 Jan 2008

We stayed one Friday night in January when there was a 50% discount on offer and what a bargain. Very friendly welcome, brief tour of all public areas and accompanied to the Penyghent room which was stylish, warm and full of character. Evening meal and breakfast both excellent, staff helpful and attentive without being obsequious. A genuinely memorable stay

“cosy atmosphere”

I phoned and got the last room for a 2 night stay with my husband without children. Hotel was lovely, very warm and inviting, lovely log fires, nice atmosphere, friendly staff. We ate in the restaurant on one of the nights and thought the food was great and reasonably priced for the quality, including a very good wine list.
Our only complaint was that after a long day's walking our bathroom was tiny with no bath - only a shower -although to be fair I did know that when I booked.
