Staff generally welcoming and hotel in a nice location. Room [No 3] reasonably spacious and bathroom Ok . However the quality of the food was very average, the menu very limited and repetitive and the service somewhat amateurish. For example. One evening whilst waiting for our main course we heard sound of a plate crashing from the kitchen. It was my wife`s bass! However they served mine and said we would have to wait for my wife`s!! Also no butter on the table, no serving spoons with the vegetables. No offer to pour wine. Also vegetables exactly the same each night. Some variety would have been nice! Also one night we had been in the lounge waiting for 10 minutes to place our aperitif/dinner order The "head waiter" followed some other guests in and took their order first. Not very professional! Also avoid the seat adjacent to the kitchen door. Everytime someone walks by from the kitchen it feels like an earthquake.
Part of the problem was that the waiting staff [ mostly Polish] were young and very inexperienced.
To cap it all on the final night there was a power cut [ apparently overload of Hotel circuit] during dinner so we had to forego hot dessert and coffee. The power cut lasted several hours. We had to retire early feeling our way to our room in almost total darkness. No offer of torch or subsequent apology or compensation. All in all a rather disppointing.
WE WILL DEFINITELY NOT BE GOING BACK!!!

“Thoroughly recommend this hotel”

The Traddock

This is a truly lovely small hotel.

We stayed in room 7, with the claw foot bath in the room. The attention to detail was excellent and the furnishings really good. The bed was on the softer side, but perfectly comfortable, so not sure whether its been changed, or what the problem was there (see earlier reviews!). There were Molton Brown products in the room, bathrobes, flat screen tv, lots of current magazines, fresh milk - everything we could have wanted.

We ate at the restaurant and it was fantastic. Very impressive organic wine list. Nothing tasted "funny" that we ate. The breakfast was also very good. The bar and lounge at the hotel are also very comfortable and tasteful.

It was expensive in my experience for a small country hotel and I was slightly nervous when I booked it for that reason, but actually, was worth every penny and I would definitely go back.

My fiancée treated me to a weekend away, at the Traddock, and what a delight it was. This hotel is a heaven of delight, nestled in an area of outstanding beauty. The welcome was warm and full of old style charm, sherry and homemade shortbread greeted us in our attic bedroom (No.10). The food was outstanding, all organic (I had venison in a chocolate jus), the service was wonderful and the wine prices excellent.

Coupled with the fact that the day was spent walking in an area of outstanding beauty (try the waterfall walk at Ingleton), the next we spent at the Hawk Experience in Horton-in Ribbleside, flying birds of prey for 6 hours on top of the Yorkshire Dales, snow flurries included. The whole weekend was an unforgettable experience. So if anyone is wondering where to go for a weekend break, and you love the outdoors, good food, and old world charm, this is the place for you!

A huge thank you to my wonderful and beautiful fiancée Karen, all the Staff at the Traddock and Chris and Jonny from the Hawk Experience.

“A fantastic second visit”

My husband and I returned for another two night stay following our last visit in October 2006. I have to say this time was even better than the last in a number of ways.
The restaurant staff were a little older than before and obviously cared about their work. Even when some staff were away ill, the service was prompt and very friendly.
The food was fantastic again, well presented and delicious. The wine was lovely and a reasonable price.
The rooms we stayed in were both comfortable and well layed out (we upgraded on the first night to a room with a bath).
Although the second room was not quite ready when we moved into it (no towels or milk) the view was splendid and we were able to totally relax.
Even when we missed lunch and couldn't find a local eatery, the kitchen very kindly made us some gorgeous sandwiches.
We shall return..... very soon I hope!

Stayed for one night in January 2007. We were made to feel very welcome on arrival and were given a tour of the public rooms. We had room 7 - the luxury double with clawfoot bath in the room. Room was presented beautifully - lovely drapes, antique-y furniture, bathroom fittings which looked very new. However, when we had settled in we noticed several suspect stains on the upholstery, bed throw etc which could have done with being cleaned. Main problem with room was it was freezing - apparently the hotel had had some trouble with the heating timer, but I doubt the two small radiators were sufficient to heat a room of that size. There was a separate shower room in addition to the in-room bath, but again the shower room was very cold.

We dined in the hotel - again the restuarant was very cold. I had read Jo Wilson's review which said the food tasted 'not quite right', which sounded odd, but having dined I can understand the comment. The risotto starter was too filling and starchy, the duck was not cooked properly and very tough, and the only vegetarian choice was a fairly basic pasta in mushroom sauce, which I thought disappointing for a restaurant of this type. It all somehow was not quite right, apart from the puddings which were excellant.

The plumbing is very noisy - there is a warning notice in the room about plumbing in old properties - and the noise when other rooms flushed their toilet in the night was very loud. The mattress was very soft (I notice another reviewer mentioned this) and we both had sore backs in the morning.

The choice of fruits and cereals at breakfast was the best I have ever seen - an extremely comprehensive range of traditional and exotic fruits, various meulis etc. The freshly squeezed blood orange juice was delicious. The portions of cooked items were generous, and the homemade bread and preserves were delicious.

Overall? Not sure. The bedrooms were generally very good (the hotel was nearly empty, and the bedroom doors were wedged open so one could see the other rooms), the public rooms delightfully cosy, the service was very friendly, but the food was not the quality I had expected. I would also be dubious about staying in that room in winter unless management could assure that the temperature would be adequate.
