“Not too bad, bill dull”

Holiday Inn Rugby - Northampton M1, Jct 18

14 Apr 2008

This Hotel is situated just off the M1 motorway on the quiter side of the DIRFT terminal. it was easy to access, but if your arriving late then it's quite dark and the entrance is not lit too well.

The rooms were of average size and were nothing special. Front of house staff at check in were quite curt however the following morning differnt staff were very plesant.

It is an old building with long corridors, but has anice swimming pool. The bar area was nice, service was slow and they had run out of Guiness !!! Ordered food which took about 45 minutes to arrive, but as i was watching a match on the TV i was not too bothered.

I had been upgraded at this location owing to my status in their membershio scheme which seemed to throw a spanner in my room rate, Had booked online on a two for 1 deal at £49 but got charged £89 per night. it was sorted out quite quickly but a further charge to my card of £1.25 has never been explained.

The hotel is not really local to anything, so your not going to be walking too far. It's a good 5 miles to nearest take away/fast food, but worth the drive to save some money on room service.

Overall, i would be happy to go back as long as i got a good deal on the rate.

“Hotel is clean, tidy and modern but the service could be better”

OK hotel but poor service in the restaurant / bar. The location of the hotel is great if you are arriving by car but there is nowhere in the local area you can walk to. Rooms are fine, the executive rooms have a minibar and safe and the standard rooms dont, other than that there isnt much difference. Some of the rooms (towards the gym) can be a little loud as the walls are thin and many are ajoining rooms with a door that lets much of the noise through.

The worst part of the hotel is the service in the bar / restaurant area. I have stayed there on 3 occasions recently and there was always some problem, either wrong order, took a long time and on one occasion they served one of my colleagues (who said he was vegetarian) fish with bacon (after he asked to make sure there was no meat in the dish). On my last stay I waited almost an hour for my food and then received the wrong order, I decided to just eat it anyway as there were already another 2 people complaining about how long they had been waiting.

I guess the appearance and layout of this hotel are its worst features. It's a very dull 1960s building with the rooms some way away from the reception (through a rather curious walkway over part of the car park) and a fitness centre at the end of lots of corridors. I've stayed twice - once back in 2005 and again in 2007. Both times the food has been fine (slightly expensive evening meals) and the staff have been perfectly pleasant and helpful. The swimming pool is also a decent size. Beware of the ordinary double rooms - they are tiny. Always book a double with sofabed or an executive room. Some excellent deals available on the Holiday Inn website - I paid £49 for bed and breakfast.

Stayed here for a couple of nights on business. Room was absolutely huge with a massive bathroom. Complimentary water and soft drink in the room each day even though it was a standard room. Staff friendly and food was OK. Definately one of the better Holiday Inns I've stayed in.

“Nice hotel, great staff”

Holiday Inn Rugby - Northampton M1, Jct 18

I booked a executive room and had low expectations as I had never stayed in a Holiday Inn.

The hotel was easy to find, nice lobby, great room with everything I would expect from a better hotel : Bathrobe, slippers, mini bar, room service, a range of pillows to order, nice lighting, great selection of pay per view movies.I felt so comfortable.

The only thing that let the hotel down was the awful room service food. The menu said chicken pieces with fries but instead I got chicken mc-nuggets. I am not into childrens food so I wasnt very impressed. However that was my only compliant.

The morning I wanted to leave early for my long drive to wales and I was a hour too early for breakfast .The staff kindly made me some toast & tea which was lovely of them.
