We stayed here whilst completing the Coasts and Castles bike ride. After hearing great things and being told by the owners that the price hike was due to a major refurb, I was looking forward to a cosy country pub with great food. The setting was great and it certainly looked the part from the oustide, but we were a bit disappointed once checked in.
The price for a double room had increased from £30 pppn to £45 pppn. The rooms, far from having had a major refurb, were somewhat in need of one. They were adequate and the beds comfortable, but having been told they'd been done up I felt a bit cheated.
The food was fine, though not outstanding. My main course of seafood mornay just didn't live up to expectations. The cheeseboard, however, was enormous and no complaints there.
All in all, if the prices had been the original £30 we would have been happy, but for £90 a couple, I would have hoped for more.
