“Great stay. Can't wait to come back!!!”
We were a party of ten, aged between 25-35 spread over four basic rooms. Two rooms had a double bed and bunk beds, the other two rooms had a double bed and pull out beds. All the rooms were spacious and not overcrowded at all. Complete with lovely towel animal to welcome us to our room!!
We arrived at the start of the week and got a great deal online for hotel and park tickets. I definitely will be coming back due to the value of money, even if we did spend a small fortune whilst we were at the hotel and theme park.
The check in procedure was fast, efficient and friendly. Our park tickets were part of the hotel package and this was very easy to pick up. Also the service went beyond what i expected. Our bags were being held in the luggage hold, whilst we were in the park. As the rooms are not available until after 3pm and we got there at 10am to make the best of our first day at the park. When we got our room key later on the staff had informed us that our luggage was already waiting in our rooms!! This never happened at Disney, we had to collect them again from luggage hold and take them ourselves to our room. Fantastic!!
Brilliant breakfast!!! I really enjoyed have a table allocated for us instead of feeling like a school canteen. Loads of choice, lots of food and staff were so happy for 7am!!! Not to say the same for me as i'm not a morning person!!! HAHA
The Alton Towers hotel had great little touches like the doorbell at the front door. A wonderfully friendly gentleman on Concierge and a friendly lady in the shop who informed us that they sold suncream in the shop, plasters and headache tablets!!! Thank you as those items we put to good use!!! The decor was wonderful, fun and imaginative. I would have loved to have come here when i was a child. Big ship in the centre, big chair to sit on and feeding the fish in the pond. Perfect.
We sat outside on the patio and had a drink before heading to dinner. The gardens are lovely and outside heaters were a great touch as it was a tad chilly. Our Waiter, Simon at the Secret Garden Restaurant was great. Food was delicious.
Being a hotel guest allows you one hour extra in the morning before everyone else. This was fabulous as we ended up getting to go on Air, the runaway mine train and even Nemesis three times, all before 10am!! Perfect!!!
From a distance the rooms look clean but if you go closer you will find that only general maintenance is done to the rooms, change bedding, clean glasses and mugs, replenishment of tea & coffee etc, wipe t.v. over. However what is really needed is to pull the bed out and hoover, dust the window ledges and units in bathroom. A deep clean is required of the rooms. Not that it spoilt my enjoyment, but, I did have to wipe over the bathroom unit before i put my things out, not something i should be doing on my holiday!!!
The wait for food in the Secret Garden Restaurant in the evening was extreme. Although we had a great server and the food tasted delicious, to sit down at 8.15pm and leave at 11.30pm was a little longer than i wanted to spend there. I only can put it down to the fact that it was off peak and they have less staff on to keep up the profit margin. Please have more staff present.
The room was very hot!!! Even with the fan, central heating off and window open. All four rooms were exactly the same!!
The walk to the park from the hotel is more like 25 mins and not 10 minutes!!! We learnt that the hard way!!
Also from the road, the Alton Towers Hotel & Theme Park is not signposted until you get within three miles of the place. This should start a lot early as the country roads and tight country village roads you go through have you doubting whether you are going the right way!!!
Overall, we all had a great time. I thought the service of all the staff we met at the hotel should be recognised as it was above and beyond what i had expected. The value for money was brilliant. A little attention to cleaning the rooms more throughly would have made me give the hotel five stars!!! So really disappointed that i could only award four stars.
We all said that we will be making it an annual trip as we cannot wait to come back. So see you next year, looking forward to hopefully being able to award the five stars next time!!!
All rooms are spacious, be prepared for a little noise as it is a family hotel. Bring earplugs if yo...
