Firstly I would like to stay that I have often stayed in places after reading terrible reviews and wondered if I was staying in the same place. This place though is as bad as the comments represent.
We stayed here as a family for one night and paid £36 for the 4 of us. That is about the only positive thing I can say.
The hotel really does need a complete upgrade and refurb. We arrived in the evening and the only 3 words the receptionist said to us was....name? registration? and then our room number. Even my 10 year old commented on how miserable she was. The room was poor, the bathroom was grubby and the sign warning about the hot towel rail amused my children no end. There was no towel rail!!
When making my child's bed up I saw the state of the quilt in the cover, it was so stained nobody would sleep under it and luckily the room was warm enough for him just to sleep with the duvet cover.
Everything was very worn, chipped, battered and stained and Travelodge really should do something about the place.
On checking out the receptionist asked if we had had a good stay, we did the typical British thing and said fine!! I really didn't feel it was fair to complain to her about the state of the whole place as I'm sure she must be totally aware.
On the positive side it was handy for getting an early start for the NEC and it was cheap.
