My wife and I stayed here for one night after visiting Wimbledon. Initially we quite surprised/impressed with the hotel, particularly after having visited and booked through their rather clumsy web site indicating a much smaller outfit. But it became much clearer.
Much larger than anticipated. Impressive looking lobby and public areas including the bar and the restaurant. Our room was pretty standard for business stay hotels and I bet that every room is just about identical. Everything was clean, tidy and in working order. The Air-con was effective albeit a little noisy. At £80 B&B per room it could only get worse - and it did.
The staff were all from Eastern or Central Europe - courteous and friendly but at times unintelligible and easily distracted. The toiletries in the room were cheap and the tea was truly awful, tasting of dried hay.
One of the previous reviewers mentions the excellent food at 'Oscars'. I think she must have reviewed the wrong hotel because the restaurant was called 'Whistlers' and the food - well.....we were on a package deal including the restaurant buffet, which again was done on the cheap. Three types of processed bits of fish including crabsticks, strange oily tasting pasta salad, completely tasteless mozzarella cheese and tomatoes, dried up cannelloni, cheap processed Chicken Kiev and largely tasteless gateauxs...there were other things but all of similar very poor quality. However, we were tired and ate quickly and went to bed.
I am not going into details of the breakfast but the quality was the same as the evening's buffet.
We didn't try the leisure club.
So, if you stay overnight go out for your evening meal. Croydon Town Centre is less than ten minutes walk away. By all means have breakfast but you don't want to eat too much of it.

What a wonderful evening we had at this hotel. My husband booked us a room at this hotel as we stayed here on our wedding night.. & thought it would be nice to celebrate my 40th birthday there also. We dinned in the resturant there, 'Oscars' & what a feast we had, food fit for a king! The hotel staff were very pleasant & welcoming, the room we stayed in was clean & comfortable with air-conditioning, but no heating?! this was the only one thing i'd say would let the room down(a minor issue). On the whole, a fantastic stay. Cant wait to return if only to dine in Oscars & indulge in the finest wines & delightful mouthwatering food they have on their menu.. thumbs up to the chef!

I think the previous comment about this being a terrible hotel is a bit harsh. I've stayed here 2 nights a week, for a long time now. The staff are always friendly, not the fastest staff in the world. And the rooms are all pretty much the same. Not going to win any design awards but nice enough.

If anything the posters of Gas Bar in the lift will make you laugh. Quite obviously taken many many years ago.

I stayed at this hotel September 2003. I was visiting family who live close by. With all the many hotels I've stayed in the US and overseas - these people 'take the cup' for louzy service and a break down of communication among themselves. A mantanance man had a key to my room and just walked in when I was lying on the bed watching TV (fortunately I was dressed). I had a wake up call to catch an early train to Paris at 4am for one morning only. This call happened 2 mornings in a row. I asked for a taxi one morning at the front desk and a cheuffer shows up in a Mercedes charging me 25% more than a London black cab!
The front desk staff never smiled and asking them for information was like asking someone if I could borrow a lot of money (made you feel like you were a burden). Its suppose to be a 4 star hotel, the room was furnished more like a 2.5 star and they would always be staining or polishing the doors to the rooms- the smell made me fell sick!
