“Small rooms in a pleasant location”

This area of Kingston (SW London) is very popular with tourists given it's proximity to Hampton Court. Indeed The Liongate Hotel is literally next door.

The location generally commands a higher price than some others, but expect to get a double room for about £80 if you negotiate. (2006 price)

Bushey Park is also next door and offers beautiful walks. The spring daffodils have to be seen to be believed. Nearby are Thorpe Park and Chessington theme parks, Lego Land and Windsor Castle are 45 mintes away.

Although we haven't eaten an evening meal there, breakfast is good and the Italian restaraunt a couple of doors away is to be recommended. There is a pub across the road and a couple of others close by.

I recently stayed for one night after booking a day at the races for some clients/colleagues. The receptionist didn't seem too happy about a party of only 8 staying and was uninterested when it was mentioned how disappointed we were at being split between the hotel and over the road.
i can only guess the hotel was in cahoots with the taxi compny as we were charged £16 to travel 2.5 miles to the racecourse.
Breakfast was very average and service was slow.
Rooms are clean and comfortable (though in one room the showerd didn't work.
On a whole nothing was offered or provided, everything had to be asked for including toast with breakfast.
Glad we were only here for one night otherwise it would have been very disappointing for a client hospatlity day away.

“The 'double' beds were a joke”

Liongate Hotel

On the plus side, this hotel is in a great position, the bar and restaurant area are lovely. We had a good breakfast and were well looked after. The hotel was clean and the bathroom modern and spotless. However, we couldn't believe our eyes when we saw the bed. It was basically a large single. They obviously have to use this size of bed as there wouldn't have been room to fit in a normal-sized double. Quite cheeky when you think about it. A hotel full of single-rooms they are trying to market - and price - as doubles. Personally, this was particularly disappointing as we are new parents, and this was our very first night away from our baby since he was born six months ago. With our son packed off to his grandparents, we had been looking forward to this supposed full night's sleep for a very long time. The lack of space meant quite a restless night for both us. Gutted!

I recently stayed at this hotel for 3 nights (March 05). I agree male staff were friendly and co-operative - the female reception staff need urgent customer service training. The food was very nice but a bit slow when they are busy. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Make sure you ask what room you are being given, i was across the road & up the stairs and it gets quite warm (especially if it is summer when you go) and despite numerous requests for help i struggled down the flight of stairs and across the road with my 20kg luggage. Overall my stay was pleasant & I was there for business - if you are staying for leisure you may be disappointed.

“Very nice but extremely small beds!!!”

Very nice male staff behind reception but the female ones could do with being sent on a customer care course.
Some of the double rooms are advertised at having a view of Bushey park - you can see it if you get your leg out of the window and lean towards the left!!!
We stayed here recently taking up about 4 rooms. The beds are absolutely tiny, a double is much smaller than a standard double. Be prepared to lose sleep due the lack of space. I received a confirmation that we would have the largest rooms available which didn't exactly happen but I must say that the rooms and bathrooms were absolutely spotless. All in all, nice staff and a spotless environment.
