“Undergoing some needed refurbishment”

I chose the hotel as to be honest there wasn't anything else and it was convenient. The lobby was uninspiring and the restaurant, which you can see when you walk into the hotel looked very dated, with a purple, green and yellow colour scheme. There was evident refurbishment of some of the rooms and the corridors, but definitely still a way to go. My room was perfectly adequate, with a nice big bathroom, although unfortunate lack of temperature control on the shower. Only had breakfast in the restaurant, which was fine with quite a lot of choice, I wouldn't choose the restaurant for an evening meal as it looked very sad and empty. Staff all very friendly and helpful.

I stayed at this hotel for one night in March 2008 whilst on business in the area.

The hotel was very clean, room was very well furnished and well equipped.

Location was OK, but the hotel is right next to a busy road and traffic noise is quite loud at peak times.

Staff were very friendly and helpful. I did not have dinner at the hotel, but breakfast was not the best (cooked food sitting in trays on a hot buffet - no indication of how long they were left for)

“Appauling food and filthy accomodation”

Best Western The Birch Hotel

Booked well in advance 25 people for a Friday night meal and suprised to see no other guests eating, soon found out why, food was cold , dried up and unedible, After 2 courses sent back untouched did not bother with the desserts!
The staff were most non caring when we complained about the meals and told us to write to the manager!
It appeared that only 1 other person was staying at the hotel,
Breakfast was disgusting, only 1 other diner who left his plate full, when ours arrived beans were solid in a ball, scrabbled eggs rubbery with film on top, plate swimming in water where the tinned mushrooms had not been drained, bacon raw and of course cold plates.
Bathroom was dirty and pubic hair on the floor, had to wash the bath out to get rid of brown liquid before use YUCK.
I have written to the hotel twice and had no reply, the head quarters and the AA who rated them a 3*.
Best to be avoided and certainly dont eat there.

“Ok Stay at the Birch”

Best Western The Birch Hotel

Our stay was pleasant but it's nothing out of the ordinary, the old part of the building is very nice with good atmosphere and some original features however the bedroom decor is dated, with a bit of thought however it's the kind of place that could be fabulous if it could stay in keeping with the feel of the original building. Unfortunately no pool or gym facilities in the hotel but I think they might have an arrangement else where. It's about a 10 min walk into haywards heath main street so good location. Breakfast was average but we were quite late! Very pleasant night porter. For value for money thought it could have offered a little bit more but it is fine

“PALSTIC FLOWERS - VERY ORDINARY AND UNINSPIRING”

Best Western The Birch Hotel

This is a very ordinary and moderate business hotel. We had booked a double non-smoking and received a twin smoking. In fact the whole hotel seemed to be totally impregnated with smoke during our stay. The breakfast was very poor; pre-cooked and unappetising. The waiting staff seemed to be asleep and seemed reluctant to clean all the mess from the previous people who had used our table until asked quite firmly to do so. The other staff seemed to be rules based as, when we left there was an early arriving guest who was refused his room until 2pm as "that is what the Manager insists on" despite the fact that there are 90 odd rooms and he obviously needed a place to change for an appointment. Unsurprisingly, the plants all seemed to be made of plastic!
