“Most wonderful hotel I have ever had the pleasure to stay at!”

Cisswood House

I am writing this review to highlight the explicable customer service and luxurious food and bedrooms they have at the Cisswood House Hotel.
Cisswood has recently undergone a £1.5million refurbishment and is looking, might i say, splendid! The hotel is now also under new management and is owned by a new hotel group. The hotel is fantastically clean- and you can trust me on this as my mother owns two cleaning companys! Cisswood has finally earned its 4 star rating, and is like a second home to me. i stay here every week for three days as i live in london...but it really is so amazing. go and see what i mean- ignore the old reviews...you wont be dissapointed!

“Three mistakes”

I will start with the first mistake made. My partner phoned cisswood and booked a double room for 3 days but when he called back a few days later to confirm the reservation it turned out they had booked two seperate rooms so he had to correct them. Second mistake being that when we arrived the cost of the room for three days added up to nearly £600 and when questioned the woman said that we had booked for 5 days and again had to correct the mistake. The third event was very unfair and cost us extra money as we recieved a phone call from cisswood a week later claiming that we had not paid for a food service, which we did when we left. They then claimed that we had ordered food twice, and the second bill had not been paid for. We went back to cisswood to sort out the problem as they stated that they had our signatures to prove that we had ordered and when we arrived there was no signature but were forced to pay. I felt that the room was very nice but the happenings has put me off from ever returning. I suggest that anyone who wishes to stay at cisswood hotel to read the reviews before booking. It seems that overall the hotel is very disappointing.

We arrived quite late on the saturday night after our wedding so we didnt get much of a chance to check out the hotel before we went up to our room.

The room was quite small but had a nice 4 poster which was incredibly creaky and managed to keep us awake most of the night, even moving an arm or leg set it off! When we informed the duty manager she replied "yes its not very good that one is it" !!!!!!!

There was a very noisy function on that night and we where given the room above the exit even though the hotel appeared to be less than half full. In the morning we were awoken by the slamming of bedroom doors as housekeeping went from room to room.

When the maid came to our room I asked if she could come back in 15 minutes as my wife had just come out of the shower, she made it quite clear that it was now or never and off she trotted without replacing wet towels, replenishing tea, coffee, milk, sugar & cups.

The bathroom in our room had mould around the bath and no seal on the shower door so consequentially the floor ended up soaking wet, fresh floor towel would have proved useful here. There was no extractor fan or blind up at the window so any one in the car park could see in!.

After looking at the restaurant menu in reception we decieded to give the restaraunt a go. We were very surprised to find that the restaurant menu is different from that on display on a sunday and provided no vegetarian option (tuna was the best my wife was offered!). They were not willing to provide any vegetables with my roast pork and mash, even though the couple on the table next to us were served a side dish of carrots and brocolli. The celery with my cheese and biscuits was covered in mud to which the waiter commented "thats not very good "and promptly disappered never to be seen again!.Oh yes and while we were eating the staff were clearing all the tables and setting up for breakfast (at 8pm!) this doesnt make you feel very welcome.

The whole weekend was topped off by being served brocolli carrot and sweetcorn on my wifes vegetarian breakfast the next morning (yuk!) It seems we couldnt have them for dinner but breakfast was fine.

Before checking out we thought it would be fair to the hotel to give them an opportunity to explain / appologise for these problems but from her reaction I don't think many of these complaints were new to her - we got the feeling that she'd heard most of them before.

This hotel falls way short of the £130 a night B&B we were charged, nothing about it would make me want to ever come back again.

“Room 28!”

Service quite good, but if you get offered room 28, ask for another!
Tatty decor, cut carpets that didn't fit, lino in the bathroom, scruffy walls. Needs an update.

“Impressed by the staff”

Cisswood House

We married nearby, staying at the Cisswood from the evening before the wedding, for the reception and wedding night, and for the New Year's Eve do the hotel had on the following night.

In the time between booking the wedding and the actual date, the hotel changed hands three times. I can believe that this was the reason for some confusion in the bookings which made us nervous that we were going to have problems.

When it came down to it, the staff on the ground made the whole thing run well, to the point that they impressed us, particularly the catering and event staff. There is no doubt that some investment is needed in the building (although our guests had few problems and the gym/pool was all fine).

If Folio put the money in (as they have told the staff they will) it will be really nice. Right now it is fine if you want to save money, and there is nothing basically wrong in our experience apart from average maintenance issues, but if you are towards the sensitive end of business travellers you might find problems. I would stay again.
