Deep in the West Sussex countryside a mile north of Lodsworth and four miles from Petworth, River Park Farm is a charming 17th century tile-hung farmhouse offering bed and breakfast.
There's a spacious family room with a large double bed and single bed - both with brass bedsteads. Also a regular double room. Both have separate bathrooms along the corridor. Everything is spotlessly clean with simple but tasteful decor.
The farmhouse has a large pretty garden with several seats where you can enjoy a welcoming cup of tea. Breakfast was good, with cereal, yogurt, orange juice and a choice of full English, scrambled egg on toast - or for kids: boiled egg and soldiers! All cooked with local ingredients.
We paid £60 for the large double and would definitely recommend it to those in search of rural tranquility - particularly walkers. There are lots of footpaths in the area.
You'll need a car and a good map to find the farm as it's well off the beaten track - a mile down its own driveway.
The Hollist Arms pub in nearby Lodsworth serves excellent food. Booking recommended.
