My fiancee and I went to Pier W for Friday night happy hour and a nice dinner. They definitely delivered a great night. The $5.75 glasses of wine and 1/2 price appetizers and drinks in the bar area were a fantastic start. We had the spicy tuna and lobster tempura sushi rolls and mussels for appetizers. The mussels were delicious but my only complaint was the menu mentioned a garlic, white wine sauce but there was also bacon. Not a huge deal but I was going for all seafood being a Friday in Lent so just take note if it's a concern. Service in the lounge was prompt but there was a bit of a wait on the food. I will note that it was only 30 minutes into happy hour so the place was pretty full.
I think our timing was the key for the great seat we had for dinner. We moved into the dining room around 6-6:30pm so it was still early enough in dinner service that we were able to sit right by the window. Our table was on the left side tucked right next to the steps, a perfect little niche for 2 people. We had a great view of the stormy, white caps on the lake and the swirling snow flurries as the sun set and the lights of the city took over the darkened sky. I highly recommend reservations or showing up early for dinner to sit by the window. The view is worth it. As early as we were seated there was over an hour wait for any window seat other than the one we received.
Upon seating we were presented with whole grain and Italian bread served with honey, lavender butter and basil, herb butter. Crusty, hot, and delicious. For dinner I had pan roasted haddock with lobster mashed potatoes. The potatoes were rich and full of lobster chunks and the fish was buttery and flaky. My fiancee had the bouillabaisse which she also enjoyed. For dessert I had the mandarin creme brulee and she had the trio of sorbet. The creme brulee was good but I don't know that I could've told you it was mandarin if I hadn't known. The flavor was pretty weak.
Overall the experience was incredible and we will definitely be returning in the summer to watch the sunset again.
