Jay Leno once joked that "La Quinta" is Spanish for "next to Denny's". If that were true for this hotel, it would be the only redeeming feature to offer guests. This La Quinta is actually about 50 yards away from an all-night batting cage (people were taking swings at 11:30 pm and at 4:30 am the following day) and that's not the worst part of it.

The hotel did not have any rooms available with inside access upon our arrival; inside access is preferable as the neighborhood leaves much to be desired. Our outside access room did allow us a view of our car in the hotel parking lot which was necessary considering the neighborhood.

Our room left much to be desired -- if you have to stay here, don't turn on the lights in your room. There was mold in the bathtub, mold on the shower curtain, stray public hairs in the tub and one on the toilet seat (in addition to some on the bathroom floor). Outside the toilet/shower area, we found a cricket under the open sink area. Granted, the cricket WAS dead.

Food was left in the mini refrigerator. The blanket on the bed was dirty. The headboard was stained. The carpet was stained. Stains on the wall were painted over -- one wall had multiple corrections. The vents were covered in dust.

We requested to be moved to another room and were informed that there was only one other room available in the hotel. This room had outside access but did not face the parking lot so we opted to stay in our room in order to keep an eye on our car. The hotel did send a maid to clean the room; she apologized profusely and agreed that the room obviously had not been cleaned. She changed the linens, cleaned the fridge, and vacuumed at our request; her efforts were appreciated but the cosmetic changes were not enough to remedy the problems with this room.

This hotel needs more than a mere facelift -- though the price is reasonable, the money would be better spent towards the bill at another hotel. Pass this one over.

“Spend a Little More.....”

La Quinta Inn Oklahoma City Airport

11 May 2008

I booked this overnight stay about five months in advance, and at that time there weren't many reviews. I sure wish I had checked back in to see the more recent ones left because I would have canceled our reservation.

Upon walking into the lobby, we were immediately hit with the odor of stale cigarettes. The lobby and front desk area was clean, so I assumed that maybe a smelly smoker had just exited the area. We later found that this smell was coming from the attached restaurant/lounge area. More on that later......

Checking in was a breeze, and the front desk clerk was very helpful and courteous. I found it interesting that so many people were hanging around the lobby eyeing the lone computer terminal over in the corner (which was occupied). I wondered why so many business looking types would be waiting to use a public computer and not the advertised WiFi?

After getting our room assignment, we drove around to our parking area and proceeded to our room, which was facing the pool. At this point, we were realizing that this was a very old property, but the grounds were very inviting if you were so inclined to go sit under the gazebo or lounge around the pool. The large trees and other well established landscaping made for a very relaxing park-like courtyard area. We had high hopes that the rooms were just as well maintained......but, we were wrong.

Opening the door, we could immediately see that our king size bed was shaped like a U, and the room had an old moldy smell. While the carpets looked clean, just something about them made us feel like we should keep our socks on, which we did, and they turned black by the time we were ready to go to sleep-- very gross!! The bathroom, while clean enough, looked like it was out of a flop house with it's stains and marred surfaces.

At this point, we were dog tired and hungry so we decided to use the 10% off discount for LaQuinta customers at the attached restaurant. We walked into the hotel lobby and down the hall to the restaurant and began realizing where the horrible stale cigarette smell in the lobby was coming from--the restaurant! Just what you want to have hit you in the face when you open the door to an eating establishment--a thick blue cloud!! This place was more of a dive than a place to eat. We quickly decided to go outside and see if there were any places within walking distance, only to find that trying to cross Meridian would be playing Russian roulette with the rush hour traffic. Being dog tired from our trip, we schlumped ourselves over to the Circle K and bought some cold sandwiches and returned to our room.

Once back in our room and fed, we decided to do take care of business online only to find that there WAS no online! I just read in a previous review that they too found that there was no wireless internet on this property and this answered one of my first questions as to why so many business looking types were hanging around in the lobby eyeing the lone computer like vultures!

Since we couldn't conduct any business, I decided to call my mother who in turn said she would call me back on the hotel's land line to save minutes on our cell phone. The room phone rang once and when I answered it, there was just a dial tone. After waiting about 5-6 minutes, the phone rang again and this time it was the front desk clerk who informed me in a rather irritated way that "Someone keeps trying to call you!!" and I replied that I was aware of that and it was my Mother. He then proceeded to tell me that I needed to answer the phone before it rang 5 times or it would end the call. When I tried to explain that I had answered it on the first ring, he kept repeating the advice about answering before the fifth ring. When my mother finally called me back on the cell phone, she related her similar experience with the desk clerk. She was getting a message that the call was being forwarded to a room that was unoccupied and when she explained that to the desk clerk, she said he became irritated with her and asked her repeatedly why she kept trying to call!!

This entire stay was bad. I've stayed in quite a few LaQuinta's and none of them compared to this. If you are looking for a place to stay close to the Will Roger's International Airport, do NOT stay here!

“The Paint 'Aint Helping”

La Quinta Inn Oklahoma City Airport

Don't be fooled by the new paint job.

Checked into the room - smelled clean (so far so good).
Lights worked - good! Toilet flushed - good! Based on that I unloaded my "stuff" from the car and settled in.

Within minutes discovered I couldn't "log on" to the internet. Went to the front desk and was told, "It hasn't been working since early this morning but our maintenance guys are trying to 'fix' it". (Maintenance guys?)
Went back to room and turned on the heater. As we were located by OKC airport I took into consideration that I might hear planes flying overhead....but this one wouldn't go away. Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's a fan motor on the heating unit in the ceiling.

So...with no internet access....no heat....and too tired to care...I put on some warm clothes and went to bed and spent the night with two pieces of concrete that were thinly disguised as bed pillows.

Next morning - still no Internet, so I decided to iron. Looked for an ironing board and found a miniature, Barbie sized piece of wood with 4 three inch legs that I think I was meant to stand on a desk....(surely not the floor)!! Well, that didn't work for me so....off to the front desk again and asked......"Do you have any REAL ironing boards". Nope...sorry. How about a Portable Heater, I'm really cold. Nope...sorry. How about some coffee cups that are larger than a thimble"? (I know - nope...sorry)!

So....no ironing board, no heat, no Internet and coffee deprived....I said, "Get me outta here". Huh? "Well" I explained, "no Internet, no heat, rocks for pillows, no ironing boards....would you stay here"?

Finally, after explaining to a nice enough, though indifferent, desk clerk that I couldn't find a hotel because I COULDN'T GET ON LINE and didn't have a phone book in the room, I was given the phone number to the Clarion across the street, which cost $12.00 less per night and had "fluffy pillows, internet AND a real ironing board". The remainder of my stay in Oklahoma City was a great!

“Very tired property”

Sometimes you get what you pay for. This is such a case. Got it as 2.5* on Hotwire like the last reviewer. It was just for one night before catching the plane next morning, so expectation was low to start with. Still I would pick pay more for a different property next time.

Carpet has lots of stains, bed squeaky, wind blowing through door seal, computer in lobby out of order, only one overworked front desk clerk on Sunday evening (nice guy, though).

Their breakfast should be fairly nice, but I had to leave too early. So, cannot comment on that.

“Avoid La Quinta OKC”

La Quinta Inn Oklahoma City Airport

22 Jan 2008

This was listed as a 2.5 star on hotwire but shouldn't be. This property is over 30 yrs old and shows it age. The carpet was dirty, the outside of the building is dirty, the pool area has broken tiles (not a factor in January but shows poor managment). Some the doors wouldn't even close because of the layers apon layers of paint used to cover up instead of clean the doors. Have requested Hotwire review the property and lower the star rating. There are several newer properties in the area and suggest you stay at one of them. The back of the property backs up to a lighted batting cage and game area which would be a problem in the summer.
