We stayed 3 nights at the Marriott in July 2006. We had a room with 2 double beds - we are a family of four with two boys, aged 11 and 6.
The front desk staff was very friendly though we had the same problem as some others with staff being more attentive to conversations with other staff than with us. Room and bathroom were clean, decor was not fancy but not bad. A/C worked fine but a little noisy. Maid service was prompt - didn't clean everything but got the important stuff.
Pool was small (indoors) but kids loved it. We didn't feel "on display" although there are glass windows to the hallway by the elevators. You can't get back in through the pool door to the outside so you have to prop it open if you want back in but area outside door is secure from outside - there's another locking door from parking lot to outside pool area.
Need to clarify parking issue. The parking lot in front of the hotel is small, most parking is in back but there is a locked door in back of building leading to pool/courtyard area and another locked door leading to building from back lot. You need your room key to enter the back pool/courtyard area and building. Parking lot is well lighted and hotel is in a good part of town so I wasn't worried.
Did not have breakfast in hotel ($8.95 buffet). IHOP is best option and located just around corner. Don't go the Jimmy's Egg - used to be a good diner but the food was awful. French toast was burned on outside and soggy on inside - yuck!
Another problem was access to this hotel. It's fine if you want to make a right turn onto NW Highway out of the property but you can't go left unless you go the wrong way on a short one way street by the McDonald's to get to the street light in front of the bank building. Otherwise you have to go all the way around the block to make a left.
Good room for the money.
