To put it as simply as possible, this is an Outstanding Museum and a must see for anyone interested in our western heritage. The museum is divided into several galleries, which are dedicated to all aspects of the cowboy and western life. I especially enjoyed the Art of the American West, which features wonderful painting of the west and a large collection of sculptures by Charles Russell and Frederic Remington. The Native American Gallery features some of the most beautiful and ornate beadwork crafted by Native Americans. The Western Performers Gallery is outstanding and features many artifacts from TV and Western Movies. On display are the Hat and Eye Patch worn by John Wayne in “True Grit”, and a number of personal items from the TV Series “Gunsmoke.” The entrance lobby features the famed “End of the Trail” plaster sculpture. After you finish with the interior tour be sure to step outside and stroll through the gardens and visit other statues and the larger than life Buffalo Bill Statue. The Museum feature a full service “Persimmon Hill Restaurant,” The food is very good and reasonably priced. Visitor can easily spend the entire day at this museum and still want for more. This is indeed one of the must see attractions for anyone visiting the Oklahoma City Area.
