I stayed at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Oklahoma City the night of Saturday, September 29. Check-in was a breeze-I was on my way to my room in less than 3 minutes. Priceline was mentioned, but not in a negative way. In fact, every staff member I encountered was friendly, helpful, efficient and wanting to please the customer.
My room was quite spacious and clean, and contained a king-size bed, end tables, armoire with television, work desk with ergonomic chair and Internet connection, lounge chair with ottoman, mini-fridge and microwave oven. There was a small coffee maker and hair dryer in the bathroom. The decor wasn't the most up-to-date, but it wasn't bad, and everything was in good condition. The television set worked very well and had more than the usual number of cable channels, including HBO. There was a combo clock radio/CD player on the nightstand that had two different "white noise" settings (ocean waves, rainfall, sea breeze, etc.) Bed linens were of a good quality. The room was generally quiet, save for a rowdy group in the hallway at one point. Fortunately, the group soon went their way and the noise ceased.
The bathroom setup was rather awkward. The sink and smallish vanity were in the same room as the closet (no door on the closet), and there was no door between the toilet/tub room & dressing area-the only door was between the dressing/sink area and the entrance to the room. If someone had been sharing the room with me this would have complicated morning bathing/dressing. The towels were thick and plentiful, and the soaps were better than average quality. I apprecicated the curved shower rod.
The carpet, while clean and in good repair, was avocado green with gold highlights-straight out of the 1970's! The wallpaper in the bathroom (the toilet/bathtub part) was definitely dated, although in good condition.
The lobby looked like something out of the late 1970's-early 1980's. I noticed one of the drapes was not entirely fixed to the rod. There is a small business center in a corner of the lobby with a computer offering free Internet access to guests. There is a resaturant and bar off the main lobby, but I did not use either. Snacks and bottled water/soft drinks are available for purchase at the front desk. There is some sort of a club on the lower level, which was very LOUD when I returned to the hotel about 10:45 p.m. on Saturday night. Although the club noise reverberated through the lobby (and probably annoyed restaurant/bar patrons), I heard no noise in my room.
Parking at the Crowne Plaza is free. The hotel is located about 20 minutes from downtown Oklahoma City, and is right across the street from Integris Baptist Medical Center. There are a few restaurant options within walking distance, and several more a short drive away. Penn Square Mall and the usual mall fast food suspects are a five minute drive away. But I would skip the cookie-cutter chains in favor of Beverly's Pancake Corner, 2115 Northwest Expressway (northeast corner of Penn and Northwest Expressway, across from the mall) for genuine Oklahoma City cooking. Just make sure you are very, very hungry, because portions are huge!
In short, I would recommend the Crowne Plaza for the $48 Priceline rate I received. It's not as upscale as the Sheraton, Millenium or Skirvin Hilton downtown, but it's certainly reliable. And the staff is aiming to please!
