At the end of a several week driving vacation through Canada, we decided to stop at the Embassy Suites hotel in Washington Square (tigard) Portland Oregon area.
We wanted something familiar and were looking forward to the cooked to order breakfasts. Unfortunately, when we called, they did not tell us they were under construction and services were limited. The main corrider is dusty and irritating if you have asthma. The cooking area is closed so they attempt to move the food to a conference room with poor results. At the "Managers reception" sparkling beverages were all flat, as they had been previously poured into metal pitchers. Chips were old and stale.
Breakfast was a nightmare! There was no cooked to order foods, the potatos were ice cold, the eggs tasted fake and grainy. With a hotel that advertises certain services, they have an obligation to inform clients in advance if those services are not presently available. Anything else is deceitful. At the least, they should give customers an optional credit at their restaurant so they could have a real breakfast.
I am shocked that Embassy Suites does not insist that they inform potential clients of the limitations in service.

“Had a great and fun time”

Embassy Suites Hotel Portland - Washington Square

We just got back from our stay here and I couldnt wait to come and write a review! :)
.. although at the time we stayed here the hotel was remodeling, it didnt take away from their excellant service.. The staff was friendly and ready to accomodate our every need.. The remodel did not take away from our experience here at all, because the hotel had gone to great lengths to make sure the quality of service was still the same.. We very much enjoyed our room which was always clean and comfortable with plenty of nice sized towels and a comfortable bed with extra pillows(we had a king sized ) it looks like they had fairly new carpets in our room which was ok with me.. there was 2 seperate tvs with remotes and an area with a small fridge, coffee maker and microwave! .. As far as the room, my husband said it several times.. "Wow! this is so nice!".... We had fun going up and down in the elevators! boy did those things take off! They were glass and you could over look the water fall and atrium with plants hanging from the railings.. The swimming pool was warm, nice and clean. I loved that it was open 24 hours so I could go down and swim at 2am if I desired.. The spa was well used by us and we enjoyed it morning and night everyday!
In the morning we enjoyed a full breakfast buffet.. I never expected the spread they put out! I had a hard time chooseing what I wanted because there was so much to choose from.. but I was happy and well fed! it was delicious!.. We were even allowed to take a tray up to our room if thats what we wanted, we did take the makeings for tea and muffins for later on..
In the evening, we came down to have drinks and chips and popcorn.. the drinks were great! I was surprised that even though it was called a managers reception, the manager was not there.. but it was a nice time to have a drink, a snack and relax...
We had a good time at our stay here and would definetly recommend staying here to anyone...BUT its cheaper to go to there very own website to book the reservations, like I did.. :)

I expected a lot more than I got. Especially at the high price I paid. I am not a patron of expencive hotels. I like to get what I pay for. I cannot believe the cold, unfriendly attitude that I got from the staff. I waited for ten minutes to ckeck in when there were plenty of staff and only one other person in front of me. They wouldn't even acknowledge me until they had to. I had to weave around the ladders and dodge the dripping paint an the way up to my room. This hotel is undergoing renovations and is a mess in the process. And they picked a very bland color. The furniture sure looks expensive, though. I was glad to leave after what I paid. I think the staff was very unproffessional throughout the hotel and restaurant. Embassy Suites should charge less at for what I got.

New York City area

My husband & I stayed at this hotel last summer for 5 days as part of our 2 week Northwest vacation. We enjoyed our stay. We swam in the pool & my husband used the whirlpool with no complaints & it looked clean to us. I used the guest laundry & found it by asking the front desk. The hotel's location was convenient to us as we wanted to visit different parts of Oregon. Since we're from the New York City area, I deliberately avoid downtown city hotels & find suburban hotels are usually better than their downtown counterparts. We also had breakfast in the hotel served buffet style every morning & enjoyed sitting by the waterfall in the atrium reading the newspaper while watching several business types with briefcases rushing thru their morning coffee on their way to their 9:00 meeting. As for cleaning the tables, I agree with the previous poster that the tables are not cleaned frequently enough, but then guests SHOULD understand when breakfast is served buffet style & its not an enclosed restaurant, that its common courtesy to take your trays to the trash receptable & not leave it there. The quantity of food is enormous & quality is quite good. In addition, there is additional seating a few steps up which was not always crowded. Seems EVERYBODY wants the seats by the waterfall & not the seats where there's no "scenery".

This hotel may not be the Hilton, but for the middle class or budget consumer, its an excellent choice. However, if you're looking for extra pampering, this hotel is not it.

Family of 5 stayed here in July, 2004 as part of a cross-country trip. Using the Hilton/Embassy Suites web site, I had reserved two rooms for the AAA rate of $124 each. When I checked in, the clerk gave me the registration forms to sign and when I took the time to look for the rate, I noticed that one room was being billed at $144 and the other at $134 (for the same types of rooms). When I showed the clerk a copy of the e-mail confirmation with the correct rates, he acted like he had never seen such a thing. His whole manner was very accusatory, as if I were trying to get away with something. He finally called a manager over and, referring to me as "this lady" and "she," explained that I thought I was entitled to a lower rate than the computer was showing. The manager quickly made the corrections on the computer but offered no apology. Because I had reserved two rooms, the clerk insisted that each room had to have a different name registered - this was the only hotel on the whole trip that required that. It also was the only one to ask to see my AAA card to verify that I was entitled to the AAA discount. Although I am a "silver" level member of the Hilton Honors program and they have my AAA status on file , I guess they just wanted to be sure. Also, unlike many of the other Hilton family hotels we patronized on this trip, this one did not leave me a nice little welcome note from the manager along with complimentary bottled water. In fact, there was no acknowledgement of my frequent guest status. ( I can't help it, I liked to be fussed over sometimes - just a little.) We desperately needed to do some laundry, but the in-room hotel directory contained no mention of a guest laundry. A call to the front desk revealed that there was a guest laundry on the second floor, but there were no signs directing you once you got off the elevator. I just had to wander around the hallways until I found it - two washers and two dryers. The hotel is very conveniently located next to a large mall and all kinds of restaurants. The rooms were nice, standard-issue Embassy Suites rooms. The breakfast buffet was up to the usual high standards. If this hotel just put a little more emphasis on costumer service, it would be my top choice in Portland.
