My husband and I live in Portland and whenever we want to escape the city and relax we go to the Old Wheeler. Each time we have stayed there it has been a great and relaxing experience. You really do feel like you're at home, except you don't have to lift a finger. The last time we were there they were putting in the elevator, which is a great addition for those who have trouble making it up the steep staircase. The highlights of staying at the Old Wheeler: complimentary popcorn and sodas to go with their collection of the greatest movies of all time & the fabulous breakfast overlooking the bay. You can also rent a boat or kayak right in front of the hotel from the marina if you like. We loved the hike up Neahkani Mountain also, which is just down the road. The beach at Nahalem Bay State Park is also excellent and very close by.

We've never stayed in a Hotel like this before. If you've driven down Hwy 101 in Oregon, you've probably passed it without a thought. Don't. Stop. Stay. We will definitely come back. It was fabulous. Older style hotel. Only 7 rooms. Wonderful attention to detail. (We had a personalized, handwritten welcome card on the door!!!) Hotel themed to the 40's. No phone. Clawfoot tub(it had a modern shower too), 2 rooms have detached bathrooms and queen beds...all others BIG King and attached bath. Common room for breakfast, reading, gaming, music, relaxing, visiting,???...great view too across to Nehalem Bay.(Binoculars on the windowsill) Sooo relaxing.
Above average and high quality Continental breakfast.
Owners Winston and Marin most delightful...at least on the phone! We never met them, but their live-in manager, Bobbie, was a one of the most accommodating and genuine hosts we've ever encountered in our travels. She was EXTREMELY hospitable. They should be proud. We felt at home. 3 days was too short. Several other guests were many time repeat visitors.
Don't forget to try the Seashack restaurant across the street, especially for the Babyback ribs and the Navy Bean soup!
And , take it from us, drink your wine in the common room! :)

This hotel is great. We had 1 of 2 rooms that do not have a connected bathroom and I still loved this place. You get so much for such a great price. The continental breakfast is out of this world, Fresh fruit, Gourmet coffee, Bagels and cream cheese, Great cereal. I just can't say enough good things about this place. It is just a great atmosphere overlooking Nahelem Bay. Absolutely Wonderful.

We were so impressed with the customer-friendly attitude that we got from Winston and his staff that we left the Sylvia Beach Hotel a day early to come back and enjoy the far more gracious and customer-friendly surroundings of the Old Wheeler Inn.

The beds were comfortable, the rooms spotless, the make-your-own breakfast options were better than you'd get at a chain, the great selection of DVDs to watch was a nice touch and the points-in-the-right-direction were an additional plus.

If you're looking for a cozy, unassuming and charming place to stay, this is it.
