I love supporting family owned businesses, so I asked my in-laws to book us a weekend here as our wedding gift. My husband and I eloped in the Poconos and spent the weekend at Nest.
Yes, hot tub, steam showers, AMAZING house, beautiful location. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the venue, it gets 5s across the board.
But the host was incredibly awkward. Maybe it was because we were young and on our honeymoon, and not the type of guests they're used to at Nest?
It was made very apparent to us by Marko that he does not enjoy what he does. He is keeping close track of every guest they have until they've made enough money to pay for the mansion they've built themselves, then the B&B will close. He even knew how many weekends he had left running the place before he could stop.
They aren't doing it because they love entertaining, and it shows - they're real estate agents trying to pay for their dream home by running a B&B in it, and they don't seem thrilled about having people in their home.
My husband and I are -very- easy going people, but let's just say there was no...ah..romance that weekend. We spent as much time outside the house as possible because the social situation was so awkward. We did not feel welcome in the house, and that's the whole point of a B&B, isn't it?
To clarify: We aren't covered in piercings or tattoos, we aren't loud, profane, or obnoxious. Just a couple of mature 25 year olds. We paid full price, we were not destructive or obstructive or inconsiderate...It was just downright awkward the entire time we were there, and we racked our brains but couldn't figure out why Marko didn't like us. I don't think it was personal, I just don't think he likes what he's doing.
I have stayed in several B&Bs previously (in the UK, maybe that's the difference?) and never felt this way.
Normally, I wouldn't get so hung up about a person's attitude - what do I care? Well, I cared because I was sleeping in this man's house and could tell he wasn't glad I was there. That's just no fun!
