This proved a very convenient stopping point in Wiltshire on the A303 travelling from London to the West Country.
The building was a 17th century coaching inn and the public rooms retain an air of slightly faded elegance. However the facilities including restaurants and bedrooms are excellent. A beautifully kept enclosed garden was a location for one of the Miss Marple films. The staff proved both friendly and helpful and I would not hesitate to recommend this to a friend.

This place needs some tender loving care. It was tired and tatty and must be the only hotel in the world that stops serving breakfast at 09:30am on a Sunday morning......and still charges you for NOT having it . Mould in the bathroom, cheap linolium on the bathroom floor, picture that fell off the nail in the wall, other pictures nailed into the plaster walls, noisy doors banging and just altogether a bit sad that a potentially lovely place like this isn't kept up to standards. It doesn't take much....
I had mixed feeling about the service. No that it was bad but it wasn't really good either. Getting a snack in the bar was a major negotiation and they don't seem to like serving drinks to their guests, you have to go and get them yourself. As for the artwork hanging in the lounge..... they must have got them in a car boot sale ! Really very sad to see such kitch chocloate box images on a regal lounge wall.

  • Liked — Comfy bed and hearing the distant chruch bells on Sunday morning - then leaving
  • Disliked — It was tired and tatty

Room was desperately in need of modernisation - bathroom still had lino on the floor and room had an electric heater. Can say however, that it was clean.

Breakfast finished on a Sunday at 9:30, on a Sunday! was all they could do to give us some coffee and toast.

The public rooms have wonderful proportions, but the potential is sadly missed by lousy decor - prints of the haywain and other random pictures in lounge just do not do it justice. It could be wonderful.

Overall very disappointing.

We arrived early but the staff made sure our room was prepared first with no quibble which is unusual! In the mean time we sat in the bar and had a quick lunch which was lovely, good quality food.

I noticed the manager was very keen on attention to detail from the interior and tidiness and towards the customers needs, even noticing a group of local ladies were on their way for lunch and preparing their favourite table.

The bedroom was fresh, light and a nice mix of modern / traditional.

The only thing was the bathroom mirror was badly tarnished and the walls had been "touched up" with paint that was a slightly different shade. The decorative finished were not that good if you looked closely, especially in the bathroom, which was a shame.

Breakfast the next day was way above average, really good with some local produce and the dining room / sun room lovely. This place does seem to be keen on their food, which is always a good sign.

There seemed to be quite a few regulars and locals coming into the bar downstairs and with the warm reception greeting you at the Antrobus Arms it's no surprise.

  • Liked — Food and the service
  • Disliked — The finishing decorating touches - but no biggie
