After a friend booked it for us, I only read these reviews the day before we went. I was terrified, especially by the prospect of bedbugs! We were in the main building not the 'motel' bit outside. I will report fairly on the cleanliness front, our room was not dirty. The sheets were clean, and I inspected the mattress and room for signs of bedbugs or cockroaches or indeed any little visitors and there were none. Thank god.
However, the corridors look and smell like a murder scene. There is extensive, weird staining and marks on the carpet and it smelt like a morgue. We held our breath walking to the room. It surely must not cost too much to replace some carpet? It was horrendous. Watching the poor cleaner hoover it in vain was saddening.
The walls are marked and dirty, which is of course no consequence to our health but it just looks shabby and like the owners don't care. They put a patterned runner and a furry cushion on the bed as if that will detract from the rest of the place but they would have been better off spending that money elsewhere as we just chucked these to the sides. I didn't sleep well the first night despite the fairly nice pillows and comfy mattress due to the sickening smell leeching in from the corridor and the sound of banging doors.
The beds don't have duvets, they have a sheet and a fleece blanket, although there is an extra blanket (not sure how much that's going to help in winter though). It can't help that the window doesn't close properly, again surely not a difficult fix? The bathroom was clean enough, although a little tired. The cold water is apparently 'not drinking water' and when boiled and attempted to make tea was apparently disgusting! Not sure how they've managed this in a country with clean drinking water?
The pub next door was cheap, spacious and actually quite nice Indian food if you fancy it. Again, just a bit tired and unloved-looking.
Yes it was cheap, but cheap should not be at the expense of being unpleasant. It was not unbearable, and I enjoyed the weekend since we just used it as a place to crash. With not much money and a bit of effort they could make it so much more.
