only 4 rooms in this fantastically maintained circa 1910 home and gilja the new owner is barely a whisper of a woman but she sure gives supersize comfort. even tho' the rooms aren't big either, they were very quiet, clean and high quality. there is a nice large round table in an upstairs (all rooms on 2nd floor) sitting area and there is free wi-fi.frig is stocked well and snacks abundant. gilja made us dinner reservations in advance(note that BYOB is popular in this region) and always inquired of us if she could help in any way.
i never could finish the good breakfast on any of the 3 days we were there...don't miss this place if you're going to be near Longwood Gardens.

We spent 3 nights at the Kennett House and thoroughly enjoyed every one. Gilja was a wonderful hostess and very helpful with directions and things to do in the Brandywine area. She made us feel "at home". We LOVED the breakfasts so don't be put off by the previous post. They were delicious and homey and we sat for hours chatting with the other guests and Gilja herself.
We'll be back!

We stayed at the Kennett House based on the wonderful reviews we saw on Trip Advisor. We were looking forward to meeting Carol and Jeff the owners of the B and B who received very high ratings based on their gourmet breakfasts and personal touches. Unfortunately when we arrived, we found out that they had sold the B and B recently.. While the new owner was accommodating and pleasant, the breakfasts were not of gourmet caliber. They were very basic with pancakes being served one day and french toast the next. There was nothing creative and the owner was not even there for the first breakfast.. The other negative was that even though you get a private bathroom, you have to walk down the hall to get to it.. We are big b and b people and I have to say this one did not stand out. My recommendation to the new owner is to work on making those breakfast truly gourmet and different and provide some ideas as to what to do in the area. The inn is lovely and snacks are provided along with soft drinks, Again it would be a nice touch if the cookies provided were home made. Effort has to made to keep up the wonderful reputation of the former owners. Hopefully things will improve once the transition period has taken place. The suggestions I am making may sound petty but the b and b's that stand out are the ones that have these special touches.

The location of the Inn is good within walking distance of Kennett Square which is a charming little town. We enjoyed having ice cream at the little Mexican ice cream place in town. They have a number of very unusual flavers. There is also a discount book store run by a senior citizen group which has a wonderful selection of deeply discounted books. Fun to brouse in..The Kennett Square Grill was very good but the Kennett Square Inn was not impressive. We did enjoy the wineries and the Chadds River Museum and Longwood Gardens. The area in general is well laid out with alot of interesting spots to see.

Jeff & Carol provided our entire 8 person party a wonderful experience. My wife turned 40, and I organized a surprise party for her in a local restaurant (Half Moon, also highly recommended). Long before we arrived, Jeff and Carol were polite and responsive to inquiries and requests for information about the local area. In every response, their recommendations about places to eat, local wineries, museums, and other general information were spot on.

We stayed in the Longwood Suite, an elegant and spacious room, with an adjoining sitting area that created extra space, and allowed us to stretch out and feel at home. The room is well appointed, but not overly busy, with informative books and magazines which I enjoyed on the couch while my wife took a nap in the other room.

The full breakfasts were nothing short of gourmet, and the duo worked in tandem with much grace and efficiency. Jeff managed the breakfast room, satisfying coffee and drink needs, serving up food and entertainment, while Carol worked her magic in the kitchen.

The house is 2 short blocks into town, where several good restaurants await. We tried State Street Grill (BYOB) and had our big party at Half Moon (upstairs). Both are fantastic. The newly opened Talulah's Table (former Django owners in Philly) is a great place for a snack, coffee, or to assemble gourmet picnic grub.

A previous poster summed it up well, and I couldn't agree more: "They have mastered the exact balance of being helpful and available without being intrusive"

We also spent a few hours at the Brandywine River Museum (15 min drive), which was a stunning building with notable works from the Wyeth clan, and others of local fame. This is a must see while you are in the area. Also, the winery Va La has a lively tasting room and some original, high-quality wines, and a panorama in its backyard that is competitive with Napa, albeit on a much smaller scale.

Enjoy your stay! Jason (Ambler, PA)

We were invited to stay at Kennett House as a result of a destination party we were attending. The experience from the time I booked the room via the web; to their follow up, and most impressive our stay were the best we've experienced at any B&B. Jeff and Carol the hosts take care of every detail a traveller could wish. Coffee waiting outside your room when you get up in the AM a terrific breakfast to follow. The rooms are spacious, gorgeous, very well equipped spotlessly clean and comfortable. We are from Boston, so not sure when we'd have another opportunity to visit the Brandywine Valley, but we would hope to get to Kennett House again. It's beautiful lodging in a beautiful location. Relaxed and delightful. Heartily recommend it.
