This architecturally-beautiful barn was built in the early 1800's. My college-aged daughter and I stayed in a spotlessly-maintained room with a very large private bath (all the rooms have private baths that vary in size, and I would be happy to stay in any one of them). My biggest hesitancy in staying at B&B's is the often-found accumulation of objects and clutter. Do not worry about that at Pheasant Run Farm! Vivian and Bob restored the barn in a sensitive manner that highlights the raw beauty of the stone and massive hand-hewn wooden beams. It is decorated with a similarly restrained and tasteful eye. As a guest, I found the result to be a warm ambiance that gave me a sense of calm and allowed me to admire the structural integrity of the barn.
Now, for the human touch! Vivan and Bob are warm and gracious hosts! We were greeted upon our arrival with kindness and given a tour of the barn. The next morning, we were served a lovely breakfast of shirred eggs, fresh fruit, etc. on a long wooden table set with beautiful porcelain, linen napkins and sterling silver flatware. The delicious food, view and setting were further enhanced by the candles that lit the room.
The Pheasant Run Farm has a lower floor with adjacent terrace that is rented for special events, weddings, etc. (I only wish I had an event to plan in Lancaster. I know where it would be!)
I plan to return to the Lancaster and Reading areas and will not stay in either town. Instead, I will have the best of all words--a memorable stay at Pheasant Run Farm with the convenience of being a short drive into Lancaster and a slightly longer one into Reading.
Thank you, Vivian and Bob for sharing Pheasant Run Farm with us!
