This is the second year in a row we stayed at Zooks motel in the PA Dutch area. Now the only reason we stay here is it’s so cheap compared to the other area motels. We would rather have much more spending money with the ability to really enjoy the area having more funds on hand. In addition, Zooks has rooms with large refrigerators, microwaves, stoves or hot plates, and large coffee makers. It’s nice once in a while to cook a breakfast, dinner or a large pot of coffee. The whole place really needs work but for $388 total including taxes for a week, we could not turn it down. If you are looking for a quiet motel Zooks is it.
We had room #1. It had 2 doors, a front and back. There was a kitchen and was totally separate from the bedroom. The kitchen had a 1960s large refrigerator and a smaller newer refrigerator, a newer stove and exhaust. The kitchen had a table, 2 chairs and a hutch where you could place snacks and where the toaster, blender and coffee maker were.
Basically the room made you think- are the maids blind or on strike? Well it was neither, two young people now run Zooks and sometimes (2 days in a row) they forget to “clean” your room. Don’t forget to always wear socks or slippers in the room and your socks will be soiled by the carpet.
The bathroom had a new round shower that was clean. There were no curtains on the window so we placed a towel over the window. The floor did have areas where a mop was missed many times.
There was two queen sized beds in the room with clean bed spread and sheets. Plenty of windows but when I looked through them it was sunny outside, but hazy looking though the window. You guessed it, after “I” cleaned the window I was able to see outside again which made a nice difference allowing the sun to shine in. After cleaning the windows I was still getting my hands dirty. The blinds on all the windows have not been cleaned in probably five years or more. I’ll clean the blinds next time (grin). There was a TV with cable and over 70 channels. There was an old wooden desk and dresser where if you pulled the draw out too far, it would fall on your foot and the clothes would come out. There were no rodents, insects visible or foul odors. There is no WiFi at this motel (did you expect it?).
This motel does have potential and we will stay there again because, yes, it’s below average but not horrible. We make fun of it all the time and laugh but we did have good times there. The last time we stayed a former Army veteran and his wife were staying there for a week and they liked it. I would recommend before you commit, ask to see a room before you pay. The rooms in the back have the cooking facilities and are much larger than the motel rooms in the front.
All in all when we finished packing the car to go home, we started to reminisce about the week we stayed at Zooks became depressed we had to leave.
Pictures will come at a later time.
