Lewisburg, PA is one of the loveliest towns in the entire state and very much worth a visit. This is the home of Bucknell University and a vibrant, completely walkable historic downtown. From the outside, the Lewisburg Hotel, fantastically located on the bustling and attractive main street right in the center of town, is perfect looking. Even inside, the hotel is welcoming, cozy, and very much according to the style of the town. In the back - on Second Street - there is a small courtyard with metal chairs and tables that serves as a pleasant-looking focal point for a small, two story motel that is shall we say, the more modest Hotel room option. But once you unlock the door, you may as well be inside a very average highway motel room. I always forget that windows in motel rooms are useless since they offer no privacy whatsoever for dressing, undressing and sleeping. In this case, what appears to be a very pleasant place to sit, instead of the ubiquitous parking area of other more traditional motels, turns out to be a spot where the hotel and restaurant employees come to take a break and smoke and I suppose other of the room residents as well. And past ten at night and even eleven at night. They are right there, ten feet away.
And the room. All the furniture and the lamps look second hand; sad and worn second hand. But worst of all are the bed covers and linens. The worst kinds of non natural bed covers and sheets in the saddest of colors - browns and tans - making the overall impact as you go in, with the shaded single window, pretty dreary.
The bathroom was clean although the towels were also pretty worn and the bath towel so small that I, a 5'2" 135 pounder, could barely hook it around my waist. Yes, it's inexpensive, but I also think that it could use a serious revamping of details so that the inside could better match the charming outside. I strongly suggest going the Holiday Express route of white cotton linens - on and inside the bed. Something that looks pleasurable to get into rather than an obligation from lack of choice.
I don't know if the Hotel rooms are any better. They have to be or no one would return.
