My family and I stayed at the SpringHill Suites at the beginning of July 2009 to go to a few Cubs / Pirates games at PNC Park. If the main purpose of your trip to Pittsburgh is to go to a ballgame, this is the place you want to stay. It is directly across the street from a main entrance to PNC Park, and some rooms even have views of the park. The hotel itself was immaculately clean, with rooms much bigger than expected. Each room as a separate sitting area that was a nice size, with a pull-our couch, chair, desk, task chair, microwave and refrigerator. Because of this, 4 people can comfortably relax in the sitting area without having to sit on the beds. The TV is placed between the bed area and the sitting area with a swivel mechanism so that you can point to either the sitting area or the bed area. Please note that if someone is watching the TV in bed, the people in the sitting area will not be able to see the TV at the same time! This is my only complaint about the room - everything else was fabulous! The beds were extremely comfortable, and there were 5 or 6 pillows on each bed (we had a 2 bed room with a pullout sofa). The air conditioner is a bit loud, but not annoying, and it worked quite well at cooling off the room. The rooms were so clean, I could not find one speck of dirt anywhere. The bathroom and bathtub were so clean, it looked like it was never touched before! There is a nice indoor pool and hot tub in the hotel, connected to a workout room. One of my favorite parts of this hotel was the complimentary breakfast. Every morning, for free, they have a breakfast in the lobby that includes hot belgian waffles, cereal, oatmeal, bagles, and they switch days serving ham, bacon, or sausage with eggs. It was delicious, and we weren't the only ones that thought so! The breakfast area was almost always crowded during serving hours. My only complaint about the hotel in general was the price. We paid $219 per night and I felt that was a little high. I live in Chicago where hotel prices are usually through the roof, and I could easily find a beautiful room for $150 right now because of the economy. The free breakfast and the cleanliness of the room do help make the price much more bearable. Overall, I would no hesitate to recommend this hotel, and I would definitely stay here again.
