We had a great experience at this restaurant - the food was good and very tasty. Although it wasn't excellent value for money, the experience was interesting. It is very much a lottery who you are on a table with. We had some very interesting conversations, but the table behind us was silent! There was also not much for the vegetarian in the party to eat other than salad, corn and mashed potatoes.

Our family of four found Good and Plenty to be a significant disappointment. #1) As a professional foodservice director, I recognized many of the items served for the pre-prepared or value added items that they were. I thought I was getting something authentic, not something dumped from a can or pulled out of a box and thrown into a fryer. #2) While not the restaurants fault, we had the worst possible family to share our table - just gross. #3) This is what really ticks me off. You pay up front. We paid with plastic as I would dare say most people do now when traveling. We were not given an opportunity to put the gratuity on the card. I mean they will not let you do it. When I realized that I did not have enough cash for a fair gratuity for our server, I approached an individual at the cashier stand who was either a manager or owner. I asked if an ATM was available or if I could access cash through my credit or debit card through their terminal and I was told "No, we can't do that. The nearest ATM is at the WaWa Station (a convenience store) 9/10th of a mile from here, you can be there and back in under 5 minutes". Then he turned his back and walked away. So poor Donna, our server got stiffed, not because she gave back service, but because this business set up their business practices in such a way as to require a customer to have to leave the premises, take their car, travel and return in order to do something they should be willing to facilitate for their customer. When I get that kind of attitude from a hospitality business, I feel used and I resent it.

“Food Was Fine, But Is Expensive For the Type of Food”

We were refered here mistakenly by my parents, who meant to send us to Plain & Fancy, but we didn't know that until we returned from the trip. I didn't know I would be sitting with strangers while eating, which is fine, but I'm a private person, and was a bit uncomfortable. My husband, on the other hand, could talk to a wall, so he kept the conversation going at the table. We sat with three people from Michigan, and two local Pennsylvanians. The food was okay, but it was not worth the approximately $17/person for us, because I can't eat that much, and it wasn't the type of food we would normally eat that much of. I did enjoy the buttered noodles and the cherry crumb pie very much.

No problems at all, just too pricey for us for the amount we could eat.

“PA Dutch experience”

Top off your day with a taste of PA Dutch dining. The meal is served "family style". So, you do sit at a table with other diners and pass the serving dishes around for a family style meal. You're served an all-you-can-eat meal of good PA Dutch "home cooking" with several main and side dish choices, non-alcoholic drinks and a choice of desert (including an area specialty, Shoo-Fly-pie). A good experience for families. Not for those looking for a private, quiet meal.

This is the best restaurant in PA Dutch country. They are closed on Sunday so plan accordingly. The front farmhouse rooms are the nicest. Came with our two little ones, but great for young and old alike.

While chatting with your friendly tablemates, you start with chow chow and other noshes, fresh lemonade, thick bread with apple butter, then move on to the main course. Went twice during our last visit to the area. Same menu for lunch and dinner.

Buttered noodles, mashed potatoes and gravy, creamed corn compliment the fried chicken. There also might be ham (mmmm), meatloaf, pork with sauerkraut (mmm) and applesauce, or roast beef.

Save room for 5 desserts: shoofly pie (best version in the area), a fruit pie, Jell-O, some version of homemade pudding, and homemade ice cream. All spectacular. (Even the Jell-O is good.) Plain and Fancy was nice, but don’t miss this place.
