The red caboose hotel is an experience. I strongly recommend this hotel for people with children. We stayed ( family of 4- kids ages 3 and 6) for one night in September in conjunction with the Thomas the Tank Engine event.
It REALLY is a caboose. The kids slept in bunkbeds in the front and my husband and I shared a double bed in the back of the caboose. My husband is 6'4" and I am close to 6' tall. The bed was a little cramped. I couldn't stretch my feet because they were against the side of the open closet.
Neither my husband nor I slept well, but that wasn't the point of staying there. The kids had a blast. We went with another family who had the caboose next door. For a family of 5 they had a double bed and 4 bunkbeds.
The only other issue was the air conditioning wall unit for the entire caboose was above the top bunk where my child was. He complained of being cold. Therefore, we turned off the air conditioning for the entire caboose and slept with the windows ajar. It was muggy inside.
I really have no complaints. I gave the experience an excellent and might some day do it again. I learned that one night in the caboose was enough and everyone was happy.
We ate breakfast in the dining car and it was reasonably priced and yummy.
I would recommend that anyone with kids give it a try for one night. It was definitely fun. Our caboose had fridge and t.v. which was great.
I do not know if they handicap accomodations. They offered a pack n'play to my friends. Parking is great. You park and unload in front of your caboose. We packed an overnight bag just for the caboose. Luggage would make the space very tight.
It was roomier than I expected, but you have to expect you will be stepping around each other.
The caboose was well-kempt and appeared newly painted.
A great experience! The location is great because it is next to Thomas. You can see Thomas going by the hotel on a regular basis.
