“Nice stay”

Stayed two nights at the Inn and had a good experience. The room was clean upon arrival and the staff were cordial and helpful (i.e., gave good restaurant recommendations and information on surrounding areas). We stayed in Rm. 9 which has its own private entrance around the corner of the front porch. This was nice as we didn't have to go through the house unless we needed something specific. It was a typical small B&B room offering a queen size bed, TV, private bath, and small sitting area with one chair. There was also a CD and DVD player in the room. The location of the Inn was great - walking distance to restaurants and downtown. We liked having beach chairs and bikes available to us when desired.
The cookies, cheeses, and desserts offered at the Inn during the day/evening were all good. We especially enjoyed the breakfasts. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would recommend the Rhett House Inn.
The nitpicky stuff would include:
* Cruddy lighting (very dim) in the bathroom
* Our room was located near the trash can storage area and occasionally we would hear lids slamming down or people talking but this was rare and did not especially bother us
* Had to pay for alcoholic beverages
* Biscuits offered with breakfast were of the frozen kind
* DVD and CD collection could use a little updating

“Disappointing Stay”

The Rhett House Inn

Washington, DC

The Rhett House Inn is a truly stunning property, but our stay was more memorable for the negatives we experienced than the positives.

First, we had booked our room of choice more than 2 months in advance, but when we arrived we were told we were given an "upgrade". The so-called upgrade was a decent room, but nothing special -- and it was missing the soaking tub that had prompted us to select our original choice. We asked the front desk to put us in the room we'd reserved, but were told that it was already given to other guests. When we expressed disappointment that they did not ask us if the room switch was alright with us, we were told that in fact, the room we wanted was not clean and that there was no housekeeper to prepare it for us. We didn't appreciate the deceitful nature of this, and ultimately were placed in another room that did not have the fireplace we'd paid for, but did have the soaking tub. So, we were happy for the time being.

The second major disappointment was that, although the room had a lovely soaking tub, there was never enough hot water over the course of our 2-night stay to fill the tub. It seems the Inn upgraded to the bigger tubs, but neglected to also upgrade to a bigger hot water heater.

The breakfasts were good, but vegetarians would be advised that the wait staff does not necessarily know what is in the dishes they are serving. My husband ordered the special of the day and specifically asked if there was meat in it. The waitress looked confused and stated that it contained beans, but no meat. When his meal came out, he took a big bite only to find that it was made with a meat-loaded chili con carne. Since there were people lining up to be seated, we opted to skip the breakfast there and go out to a restaurant so he could eat.

When we checked out, we told the innkeeper that we were really disappointed in our stay and mentioned the things that had gone wrong. She apologized and said the manager would follow up with us, but that was 6 weeks ago and we've never heard back from them. This was the most expensive place we've ever stayed ($499 for the weekend) and it was just not nearly as nice as other places we've stayed for much less. It certainly didn't meet our expectations of what a 4-star inn would be like.

“Southern Warmth and Charm”

The Rhett House Inn

12 Feb 2008

My husband and I decided to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary in the charming antebellum town of Beaufort, SC. We read the reviews of the Rhett House Inn and decided to stay there. What a beautiful Inn. The staff was warm, friendly and ready to be helpful in any way they could. They made us feel so very much at home. Breakfasts were wonderful as were the desserts ready and waiting for us in the kitchen upon our return from dinners at nearby restaurants. The Inn is one block from the water - within walking distance of all the shops in town and a lovely waterfront park. Our room was lovely, spacious and very clean. Since it was February, and although the weather was actually quite nice, it wasn't quite warm enough to spend as much time outside on the verandah as we would have liked, but it's an inviting place to eat breakfast and to just sit and read a book.

“Lovely B&B in Beaufort, SC”

The Rhett house is a beautiful historical home that has been renovated with modern necessities such as whirl tubs, gas fire places in rooms, under counter refrigerator, pull out swivel TV, etc w/o compromising the integrity of the house.
We stayed in Room 17 - in the annex building. The bed was very compfortable! They supplied robes & an umbrella - not that we needed it, but it was nice to have. Our room had a front porch with two cushioned wicker chairs and our own parking space. The Rhett house is within walking distance to Bay street, the water front and all the restaurants and lovely stores. The old neighborhoods are just beautiful! Any history buff, Interior Designer/Architect would love this Inn!

The main house had a living area with tea, lemonade, & cheese & crackers for your afternoon snack. There's a bar set up on a butler's cart also in the living room. They have a variety of red & white wines, sodas & mini bottles - on the honor system. You simply write down your room # & and what you had on the pad provided.

They also have DVD's & CD's for you to use in your room.

In the evenings, there were (3) homemade deserts on the kitchen counter. The almond cake w/white icing was my favorite! We just sat down at the kitchen table for 4 and enjoyed our dessert. It was very cozy & a nice way to meet other guests.

The breakfast was wonderful! They give you (3) choices. We had choices of The southern b-fast - eggs, bacon, grits & bread, pancakes/french toast & then the special one morning was some wonderful mexican style b-fast dish that my husband loved. They also had an omlette special another morning.

The staff was very pleasant & helpful. I felt like a guest in their house.

This is a very romantic cozy B&B. Great for all!

Wonderful place. The staff and amenities are first rate. Lots of little touches that really communicate hospitality - dessert after you come home from supper, bicycles to ride, spectacular breakfasts --- a truly first class place. We completely recommend it!
