It is a decent hotel, and the staff treated us great despite getting it through Priceline. We got the welcoming cookies. No problem switching one of our rooms from a king bed (single-level suite) to a double suite with two levels - sitting downstairs, beds upstairs. Staff are courteous at all times. Rooms look fine, if not the most fresh. Good amenities.

We didn't use the $19 valet parking. For self-park, one should use the Bank of America garage behind the hotel (next to Hank's Seafood) for $14/day; not the open lot in front that costs $1 for every 30 minutes with no daily maximum.

“Perfect for Girl's Weekend”

My girlfriends and I had a great stay at the Doubletree in Charleston for our getaway weekend. The location is perfect and within walking distance of Historic District sights, shopping and restaurants. We rented 2 suites for 4 of us and found them to be roomy enough. The best part of the stay was probably the staff. The valets and bell service staff were very helpful and the restaurant staff at breakfast were extremely upbeat and friendly. They even sang "Happy Birthday" to one of my friends who was celebrating her 40th and gave her a bag of chocolate chip cookies.

“Overpriced, but good location”

Doubletree Guest Suites Charleston - Historic District

14 May 2008

The Doubletree in Charleston was in a great location. Close to everything and most places were in walking distance. I was expecting a nice roomy suite, having stayed in Doubletrees before. The suite was so tiny. The "family room" only had a sofa type chair and some dining chairs. My family couldn't all sit comfortabley in the room at the same time. For what we paid I expected more space. Make sure you get a larger suite rather than the standard ones of you have more than one person with you.

This is a great location, right next to the Market. It is an older hotel that could use some updating of their rooms. We had a 2 room suite on the first floor, very small, reminded me of a Country Inn and Suites room. Very small bathroom but functional. Suite was very well lighted, had small bar with refrigerator, microwave and sink, no counter space. Room had a few discrepancies which we did report. Toilet paper holder and shower control were loose. No repairs while we were there but we only stayed 1 night. The comforter was plainly stained and I can't believe that housekeepng wouldn't have noticed. Breakfast in the hotel cafe was a terrible experience. No tables, inattentive wait staff, they seemed overwhelmed. Hot buffet with overcooked, inedible bacon and sausage, bisquits dry and hard. Eggs cooked to order but took several tries to get them correct. We got brushed off by the staff at the desk but we did receive a letter of apology from the manager. Nevertheless, we would not stay there again as there are many good places to stay in Charleston.

The location of this is perfect, right at the market. We had a 2-story suite which did not work well for us because of the stairs; the bathroom is upstairs. Our suite was on the courtyard which got noisy at times. Staff was excellent. The breakfast is rather pricey: $14 for the hot buffet which you get free at a Hampton Inn. For what the hotel charges, they should include breakfast. The only problem we had with the valet parking was discovered several days later when we went thru a carwash and water started pouring in thru the roof; we realized that the valet had opened the sunroof a bit, but since the inner sunroof cover was closed we had no idea what the valet had done until it was too late. Next time we visit Charleston we will probably stay farther away from downtown and just drive to the market area.
