Our suite(Soho) was larger than expected with modern decor and luxurious amenities such as surround sound system, jacuzzi, and large shower head. Our bedroom had a king bed with comfortable white linens, but no windows which was a positive to keep out sunlight and road noise. Don't look at the window sills(disgusting). Do not open the windows! 95% chance a bird will fly in as they live right above. The closet light was not working. I did notice some stains in the carpet and on the couch in the living room. I liked the tiled bath with separate sink. There were no hand towels and no glasses, but we improvised with some from the kitchen. Having a kitchen is always a plus, but there were no utensils. There are 2 grocery stores within half a mile. Downstairs is a Sticky Fingers (mmm... mmmmm) and the location in downtown Charleston is the main reason we chose to stay here, very walkable to all sights and shopping. No need for a car, use a pedicab(we recommend Brandon). The entrance was almost blocked at times by an army of trash cans; an eye sore and a nose sore, if there is such a thing. You are not going to find a more modern accomodation with this much space for a better price. We'd stay here again. You do have to be persistent if you want a response from the management.

My review is simple - as I see with other peope here on trip advisor - the fact that this Jill will not return phone calls is absolutely absurd - how can you run a business this way. Did i like the place - I wouldnt know - I didnt get a chance to stay here after leaving messages for 4 days about a reservation since pet friendly rooms are slim in Charleston.

I think this establishment is an embarassment and this Jill should go back to school to learn how to be a responsible person before being let out into the adult world. I could only imagine the probelms I would have had had I booked this place and needed her for some reason.

Our most recent visit to Meeting Street Suites, December 2006, was our third time. It will be our last! The level of management has gone downhill considerably. The room was not clean (shoe print on duvet, stains on carpet, etc.), we only had two towels for our 5 day stay, some of the light bulbs did not work, and we had one roll of toilet paper for the entire stay. And this was our honeymoon! Because the management is almost impossible to get in touch with we just went to the store and bought our own light bulbs and toilet paper. During our last stay prior to this one, March 2004, we noticed some items of furniture had been broken (granite counter top in kitchen, door on TV armoire in living room). We notified the management so they would be aware. They were still broken two years later! It is hit or miss if you will get a phone call or e-mail returned when trying to book your stay. Our first stay was in the summer of 2002 and the suites were managed by Allison (She was a class act!). It was so much better then that it is like it's not even the same place anymore. This could be one of the nicest places to stay in Charleston. Instead it is being run in the ground. What a shame!

I stayed at the Meeting Street Suites from August 10-13 and enjoyed it. My fiance and I stayed in the Carolina Suite which overlooks Meeting Street. The den has hardwood floors, a couch, table, and a fireplace which we did not use. The kitchen is fully stocked. The bed was plenty comfortable as we had to share it with her pug, Mocha. The suites are pet friendly but a fee of $25 is added per night. The bathroom is very spacious. There is not a shower curtain, only a piece of glass that covers the front part of the tub, which leaves nothing to the imagination. The location is central to many good restaurants. In order to get to the rooms you have to take a private elevator which is behind Sticky Fingers. You have to park your car in the Charleston Place parking garage, which charges $12 a day. My car was parked on Thursday and did not move again until Sunday when we left. As I said before these suites are central to everything you want to do.

“Like having a downtown apartment - Perfect”

Meeting Street Suites

We were thrilled with Meeting Street Suites. Like all individually-run establishments, there are things that could be improved, and I'll try to cover that, but overall, the stay was outstanding.

Like others have mentioned, Jill, the manager, is not around during your stay - you kind of check yourself in and out, so unless you need something and call her, you're not likely to cross paths. This was fine with us, as we're pretty independent, and were not looking for a "bed and breakfast" feel with hosts and fun neighbors, etc. This was truly like having an apartment right in the heart of the city.

When you arrive, you punch in a code to access a door behind Sticky Fingers restaurant, then ride the elevator (slow and hot, and you might think it's not working, but it really is) to the third floor, where you exit into a hallway with four rooms; that's it. We didn't see another soul upstairs or in the elevator during our three day stay here, even though we knew there were others there. That's perfect for us - we're private and like to keep to ourselves, no need to make small talk with people we don't know when we're there to have fun in the city.

We travel with our 2-yr old, and our small Cocker Spaniel, and Meeting Street Suites was able to accomadate both (provided a pack-n-play and they are pet friendly for an additional fee). We also had another couple with us this visit. Sticky Fingers restaurant occupies the first floor of the building (great food, but they need to offer baby back ribs!!!...but that's a different review), and the second floor seems to be prep, office, and banquet space for the restaurant, so the noise from the restaurant does not affect the third floor.

If you are picky with regards to noise, you do hear a motorcycle or loud car echo down Hassel street maybe every ten minutes, but we travel with a sound machine to drown out that kind of noise for our toddler, so that didn't bother us much. The first night there did seem to be some kind of mechanical repair work happening at the building late at night, but ti didn't last more than a half hour (though it was about midnight), so we didn't complain.

We stayed in the "Manhattan" suite, which is the two-bedroom option. When you enter the suite, you're in a nice sized little living area with a desk, sofa, chair, and kitchenette. They provide satellite tv, wired internet access, phone, and and dvd player w/surround sound, and they even have DVD's to borrow in the hallway. Also, there are games available to guests, and they provided umbrellas to borrow, which came in handy one day in Charleston.

The living area was carpeted, and the two bedrooms are hardwood floored. There is a large bathroom in the bigger bedroom, and the other bedroom has a smaller bathroom just outside it, by the kitchenette.

Meeting Street Suites is literally a two minute walk to the market in Charleston, the heart of the downtown area. Jill was very accomadating for us, and while she was not "there", she was available when we called, or called back quickly.

We will absolutely visit Meeting Street Suites in the future, and would recommend others do the same. The small list of things I might improve if I were Jill...1)lighting - in the bedrooms, especially, it seemed as though you could never get lights on, so either the outlets were switched, or the bulbs were out, or both. I would go so far as to label the switches, but I know that's cheesy. 2)the bathrooms are very nicely appointed, but could have used a little more heavy duty cleaning in the crevises, etc; or some fresh caulk to hide the nasties, like we do at home :-)

All in all, nothing negative is enough to detract from the ideal location, fair price, and perfect atmosphere to slip in and out anonymously when desired. Thanks Jill for helping make this a great visit.
