I chose this hotel based on the positive reviews I've read, combined with the fact that it was more reasonable than the King Charles Inn and Andrew Pinckney Inn, among others. And I'm so glad I did because my family just loved it! Our room (105) was toward the end of the building, and it was nice being able to walk through the beautiful courtyard each day. It had a bubbling fountain, turtle pond, loads of lush foliage, and several tables and lounge chairs. Our room was lovely, although not overly large. The bathroom vanity was plenty spacious, and louvered doors are there for privacy, which was a nice touch. Everything was very clean, and a maid came to our door each night to ask if we needed extra towels or soap, etc. The hunt breakfast this hotel offers is just wonderful. On Friday they provided assorted cereals, hot biscuits, sausage patties, mini egg & cheese omelets, ham biscuits, fresh fruit (huge strawberries!), breakfast breads, and assorted delicious pastries. Along with coffee and juice, of course. Saturday was the same, except instead of the sausage and omelets, they had pancakes and hard boiled eggs. Sunday they had hard boiled eggs and bacon, along with the rest. And all day long they had pitchers of iced tea and lemonade. In the late afternoon they offered cheese cubes and crackers, along with fresh fruit and crab dip. And wine and spirits for those who partake. The only downside was that, although we neard no noise from either room beside or above us, the people in the courtyard can get pretty loud in the evenings, well into the night. I found that turning on the air setting on our thermostat blocked that noise out pretty well, since that alone was noisy itself. But I can tolerate that kind of noise better than loud voices. All in all, this hotel is well worth the price for its location, service and amenities. It's our new favorite place to stay in Charleston, hands down!
