This property is a bit larger than your average B&B with a typical Charleston architecture. All rooms overlook the courtyard which had a small hot tub/plunge pool. We stayed this past weekend (4/11/08) at a rate of $239 per ngt for a room with double beds.

We stayed in room 208 which was decorated in the traditional southern style; four poster canopy beds which were quite high (stepping stool was provided), plantation shutters, floral wallpaper and what seems to be the original wood floors. The lighting wasn't the best as there were no overhead lights only a total of four lamps with 60 watt bulbs.
There was no desk in the room, only a small lamp table with two leather wing back chairs. There was a refridgerator and safe which I thought was a nice touch.

On the 2nd night we moved to room 204 which had a king size bed and it own private patio. This room was much larger and we were given the option of a rollaway or air mattress at no additional cost. I opted for the air mattress which was set up promptly, additional towels were sent to the room without us requesting which is a change from past experiences.

The bathrooms were spotless and the towels were white and seemed fairly new.

The full continental breakfast was great with coffee, teas, juice cereals, bagels, yogurt, muffins, biscuits, saugage and eggs. The wine and appetizers in the evening was also a nice touch. All of this was complimentary.

Overall I liked this property as the convenience could not be beat. The shopping on King St was only a 5 minute walk and to the pier was about 10-15 min. However, the room rate was a bit high for my liking but this is the price for convenience. There is no parking on the property but the lot across the street charge $12 per day.

Just returned from a short trip to Charleston, and spent one night at the Meeting Street Inn. The inn is centrally located, and within walking distance of many fine restaurants and shops. The inn is not a 'polished' place. It is more 'shabby chic'. Don't expect high end finishes, granite, high tech showers, etc. Do expect four poster beds, lots of wallpaper, and older fixtures. That being said, it is a charming place. We had a room with 2 double beds, which was small but tidy. The room had an older, but serviceable bathroom, a small fridge, sink and TV. Just outside of our first floor room was a hot tub, which was a tad dirty, but oh well. Also outside our room was a lovely patio/garden. The inn served wine and cheese and meatballs at 5 PM (it was closer to 6 PM actually), a nice touch. In addition there is a continental breakfast, ours had ham on biscuits, a variety of breads, pastries, cereal, bagels, juices, tea and coffee. The staff was very pleasant and all in all I would be happy to stay here again.

“Great girls' trip”

I stayed here for three nights with three other women for our annual "girls weekend." We opted to stay together in one room, which was a little tight but we had fun hanging out. Our room was actually very spacious, with two double beds, a large walk-in closet, french doors and a small balcony, and plenty of space for all our stuff. We had requested a foldaway bed because one of our group is pregnant and didn't want to share a bed, and the hotel was great about accommodating that request.

The decor of the place may be a little stuffy for some, although others might find it charming. Lots of antiques, lace canopies over the bed, chinoiserie wallpaper. Everything was very clean and comfortable, though.

Breakfast was nice: coffee, tea, cereal, pastries, fruit, and at least one hot item, like ham and cheese on biscuits. The afternoon cocktail hour was also very nice, with wine, cheese, crackers, and a mysterious tuna (or salmon) spread.

The staff couldn't have been more helpful and pleasant. They advised us about plantation tours, they came up with a bowl of fruit late one night when our pregnant friend had a craving, and they even gave us an extra carafe of wine. We really felt right at home.

One problem we had was with noise in the room above us. The first two nights we were there, it sounded like someone was moving furniture most of the night. We asked at the front desk and they coudn't explain it but told us that the room above us would be vacant on our last night. They also asked us to call the front desk immediately if there were any noise problems, and they would take care of it.

The location is also absolutely perfect, right in the middle of historic Charleston. We parked our rental car across the street and didn't use it for the entire weekend because we were able to walk to shopping, dining, the spa (I recommend a massage at Stella Nova), and everything else we wanted to see and do.

All in all, a wonderful weekend and a perfect home base.

My husband and I stayed at Meeting Street Inn for our honeymoon and we couldn't have had a better time in Charleston. We're from South Carolina, so we've been to Charleston many times before, but the location and service that Meeting Street Inn had to offer was outstanding. It's located right at the end of Market Street, and any shop you could want in Charleston is within walking distance. It's also extremely convenient to get to the Battery, too.

I think alot of the reviews are written by older people who are more accustomed to staying at places like Meeting Street Inn. However, my husband and I are in our early 20s and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The rooms were excellent and the service of all the staff was exceptional. We're going back this summer for our first anniversary!:)

“Another Year, Another Wonderful Stay”

Just returned from our yearly visit to Charleston, SC, staying as always at the Meeting Street Inn.

For the last several years we've requested the same room, in fact have started making reservations a year in advance just so we could be sure to have "our" room.

Each year it's just like coming home when we wheel the luggage trolley up to the room and settle in.

The inn has had a major refurb over the past year or two and it now gleams and shines from top to bottom.

Our room has had french doors added where formerly there was a wide window with AC unit. Very nice change, as now you can go out onto the balcony, complete with decorative bench, overlooking the lush, blooming-in-January courtyard.

The heated spa pool has been completely re-done, new tiles, new surfacing, new water jets.

The whole place just seemed to be humming with well-cared for content.

Several of the usual minor problems (light bulb needed changing, forgot aspirin so the front desk sent some up to the room, etc.) were handled with efficiency and dispatch.

We must mention one particular person by name: Darin is top, top, top. He is pleasant, cheerful, helpful, can-do, and as such one of the finest inn-keepers we've encountered.

Because of some reviews stating that particular rooms were dirty and dusty, I made note to check out corners and under beds as I've not done in the past.

Our room was spit-spot clean, from the door to the bathtub. I even shook the crocheted canopy over the bed. No dust at all.

I think perhaps that some people equate "old" with "dirty/dusty/unclean" and the Meeting Street Inn is old, c. 1874.

Of course, that's what we like about it. And it could not be more well-cared for.
