“Good, not Great”

Victoria House Inn

We just visited the Victoria House Inn for an anniversary trip to Charleston. Our room was nice (I loved the beautiful paint color) and appeared clean. Not big, not small. There are no common areas at the inn, so you really are just paying for a room. It's not the bed and breakfast experience of some of the other family owned places. The afternoon wine is served at their sister inn next door. It was nice to have but we would have liked some cheese and crackers or something with the wine.

Breakfast was 2 beverages and 2 pastries (croissant and sweet roll) brought to your room. It was nice to have it delivered, but would have liked to have had some fruit or something a little more substantial.

The location was good, across the street from some shops like Saks, Gap, J-Crew, Starbucks, etc...From the parking lot, it is a short walk to the front of the market. It was a pretty good walk to the historic homes, but was definitely in a good location to walk to anything we wanted to do.

We got a good deal on the room and it served it's purpose but we probably won't stay again. There was definitly nothing distinguishing or romantic about this inn. If you get a good deal and aren't looking for the "B&B experience" it was nice for a room.

My sister and I stayed over last weekend at the Victoria House Inn, at her recommendation. She had previously stayed there with her husband, and we were not disappointed this time either. The location of this inn is fabulous - steps to shopping on King Street, and reasonable walking distance to most tourist destinations, restaurants, etc. in downtown Charleston. The room was good sized, and seemed even larger because of the high ceilings. We also had a mini fridge under the sink in the bathroom for no additional charge. The staff were friendly, and (although we didn't need it because we are familiar with the city) I think you could get pretty personalized advice from the conceirge if you needed it because the inn only has 18 rooms. The only negative comments I had were that there was some chipped paint on the wall in our room, and I think the breakfast would get old if you were there for a whole week. However, the breakfast (pastries and choice of beverages) was included in the rate and brought to your room at your choice of time. Also, the company that runs this inn also has some other properties next door (Kings Courtyard and Fulton Lane Inns), and sometimes they have last minute specials on their website.

I thought the Victoria House was a great Inn. The rooms are beautiful and large. Its in a great location, very near to the shops. There is some noise from the street at night, but it does not take away from the Inn's charm.
I would stay there again.
