It was not a good sign when I checked in and the attendant did not know that Days Inn stays now earned and were converted to Wyndham Rewards points. It was a worse sign when the manager didn't know this, either.
Upon arriving in the room and discovering all the lightbulbs (that weren't overhead and fluorescent) were 25 watts, went to the desk and asked for stronger bulbs. This is a common request at most hotels - hotels use low wattage to save money, guests who need more light request stronger bulbs. The manager told me they only had one kind of bulb, 25 watt. I told him a compact fluorescent would be fine, just give me a brighter bulb, which he could do. I then screwed the miserable 25 watt bulb from the room into the fixture outside my room which was burnt out, even though it was next to a dark corridor.
That corridor was dark , and entirely unlit. Parking was on the other side of that corridor. As a woman travelling alone, this was not comfortable. The door didn't have the sliding bar lock, just a chain. Several of the ground floor rooms seemed to have entire families living out of them, sitting in the walkways lawn chairs and electric fans, but maybe they had had fires at their homes and no where else to go.
The inside of the room was kinda gross. No bed bugs, but took the second fastest shower of my life and refused to touch the bath curtain. The finish of the formica furnish and table tops was rubbing through. But the room had a microwave and refrigerator, which is a great thing. It was even better considering the mediocre quality of the attached restaurant, which smelled of mold.
Other than the dark corridor and chain closure on the door which scared me, the worst feature was a round formica table that the edge strip on the table top was coming off. If was stapled back on, but the staples were not in thoroughly, and not all of the laminate coming off had been stapled down. I'm not a mother, but all I could think was how dangerous this would be to children running around a hotel room.
Perhaps it's not all bad. I stayed at an identical La Quinta the following night, and it was clean, not moldy, and that corridor was lit. But this hotel does have a swimming pool, the crabgrassy grounds seem to be mowed regularly, etc. If you are assigned room 130, ask for another before you even leave the office.
